  • Playing turns, beginning with turn 28

    Fellow Stormians,

as I said multiple times, next Monday (Jan 13) I begin to work again. This will be a serious cut in my civing and polying time. I won't be able be present almost 24/7 and to stick my nose in every discussion thread anymore and to try to compose a compromise for the next turn out of the many "if", "could" and "maybe" I find there. That's the reason I'm calling you to help me. What I propose is:

From the next turn (28) on I will post a turn thread for the next turn, just like I did in the past. From now on, it will be looking like this:

    Status:
Here I post some informations about the game, remaining beakers, gold reserves, pending diplomatic offers from other teams etc.

    Urgent questions:
Here I post, what I see necessary to be discussed. That is, what I posted bold in the past turn threads.

    Military:
Here I expect the leaders of the Schola of Tacticians to post precise oders for scouting and unit relocations. That should be Theseus and Arrian. If they lack the time, another player could help out, DeepO perhaps, or Dominae?

    Economy:
Here I expect the leader of the Schola of Economy to post precise orders for city production, laborer relocations and workers as well as the management of the sliders and the tech to research next, if needed.

    Diplomacy:
Here I expect the leader of the Schola of Diplomats to report answers to our notes (keep it short!) and offers to be made, accept or declined by us through the diplo screen.

You see, that I make a feature out of the "edit teammates post" bug. I'm sure that it will work, only please edit your answers elsewhere (notepad) and only shortly copypaste them in, or else it may happen, that 2 players will edit the post at the same time and I don't know what will be in this case.

Your precise orders also will help Meshelic to replace me in the hours after my midnight, when I'm definitely not able to play when I'll work again. I will, as far as my time allows, continue to participate in the threads, but certainly to a lesser amount than I do now.

Is this acceptable to the team, and especially to the leaders of the Scholia?

Sir Ralph, master of efficiency. Good idea.

Good idea, it's been great to have you around so much, but obviously this can't last. We need a good system for organizing orders and this should work well.

Now, if someone could expand on this idea, and make a history thread, where all turns are discribed in a few words.....

( for people who miss out on things due to IRL stuff for example)

                  Good plan.

Arrian, you seem to be reliably able to post in the morning, and I can almost always do so in the evening (both GMT-5)... if there is ever a time issue, let's split up the responsibility that way.
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

Sir Ralph, with your recent inability to be available as much, what does this mean for the Poobah-ness?

I know that I volunteered for Brigadier Poobah, and I plan on staying in that position if the others approve, but will we need a temporary replacement for you?

                          Theseus,

I post in the morning from... work. I cannot view screenshots then, and so giving unit orders will be difficult. I need to do it at night... like now. I can post about general strategy from work, of course.

ps Happy B-day, Mr. Poobah, sir!

I think the tech and luxury sliders are things that should be handled by the person playing the game. The tech slider can be affected by who knows a tech at any given time, and that can't be modeled effectively in advance (especially if another civ discovers a tech while it's being researched). The luxury slider setting needed is based on both city size and military police, so the player needs to doublecheck each turn to verify that carelessness or miscommunication between the economists and tacticians won't lead to riots.

The responsibilities of the Smith Foundation with respect to the sliders should be as follows:

                              (1) Provide notification of any special plans with respect to gold, e.g. saving up for unit upgrades, that cause a an exception to the normal goal of researching as quickly as possible.

                              (2) Providing notification of city size increases or other conditions expected in advance to require changes to the luxury slider.

                              (3) Participating in "on-the-fly" discussions of slider settings during a turn to the extent availability permits (e.g. deciding whether to adjust the luxury slider or use an entertainer if a city other than EotS is threatening a riot that hadn't been anticipated in advance; with EotS, using the lux slider will always be standard practice).

In addition, the Spartan Academy needs to be careful with regard to moving units that are or soon will be needed as MPs, and to provide notification as much in advance as practical when such moves are anticipated.

                              Nathan
