    • Just read the two, more or less incoherent, messages from JM... wow. One voice, huh? not before long, it will be One member

Deal: please, let someone explain to him that tiers have little to do with assessing the importance of a tech, beaker cost on the other hand has a lot importance. Tier 2 for tier 1... sigh. That's SMAC, not Civ3. And I don't need WC as return deal for alphabet, certainly not when we first of all gave the wheel for BW. No deal, I strongly oppose accepting any such deals in game, as long as we can't lose the diplomatic ends.

We have to be strict about this, or they can come back to us on every deal we do in the future...

Lux near them: the interesting thing is that this leaves a large part of the world map unsettled... there has to be a (small) continent on the Western side, with nearly no-one occupying it.

Further, writing for all contacts is already low enough, if they want to see it as all contacts then for alphabet now, and IW now for writing then, fine by me. that's tier 2 for tier 2

Wheel for Bronze was a loss for us, Writing for Iron would be a second. True, gifting Warrior Code to us would even this out, but in this case we would receive Iron Working only after we researched Writing, which is completely inacceptable.
Their proposal earlier was Iron Working now in return for Writing when we get it.

We could remain without iron, if we research writing now.
Very true... I can live with it if Lookout ridge would contain a iron source, but iron in the spinebreakers? that changes everything.

Keep the turn on hold, please, until we resolve this matter. I do not want to delay researching writing, and it is obvious you don't want to start writing before we have IW.

Send notes, demand, threaten, but get us iron working now. Or else we have to research it on our own, before we begin to research writing. This delays their research as well. Tell them, that we can be either their partners or their competitors and ask what they think is better for them. If they don't give IW now, the deal is void, as is the promise of peaceful intent.
I agree, with one exception: so far there has been little talk about peaceful intent, only about stopping to get into each other's hairs too much. quite a difference...

I'd already told Jon that I figured the mystery civ was probably Lux. The most he did was confirm something I'd already deduced using process of elimination based on the locations of the other civs. (Well, that and his earlier characterization of the mystery civ as being north of Vox.)

Ah, I was hoping that he had slipped.

                • Good message, send it.

And yes, we should hold the turn till things are clear what to do. Either they give us the deal, or we begin to research IW ourselves.

                  • Message sent. By the way, the turn seems to be with Vox at the moment according to the Saved Game Thread.

                    • Maybe one of the next messages can contain a BTW, saying that we don't like their fixation with being fast players if they do not take the time to discuss diplomatic things, acting on it in their turn, meaning another delay on our side. Most of our delays have come from dealing with them, lately.

                      • I'm going to bed soon. I'm halfway restored and make my second attempt to appear at work tomorrow.

Delay the turn. Delay it, till things are discussed out, and if it lasts a whole day, so be it. We have enough hours on the counter, and I don't see why we should compete with the other teams timewise. This is a critical moment for us, and as long as we keep 80-100 hours on the counter as reserve, things are fine.

                        • Total agreement here... wait until we either have a promise that they are going to trade IW for Alphabet next turn (only next turn if they have already played their turn), or we have confirmation that the deal is off, and we have to research it ourselves.

Sleep well, SR, I think I'm going to follow you

                          • Is it okay if I take my discussions with Jon into chat and see if we can hash something out? It doesn't look like there will be a whole lot of people left awake to review my proposed messages anymore, and things will probably go faster at this point if Jon and I communicate in real time. I can bring back what I come up with for ratification later, and we can delay our turn until either late in or after our green tme tomorrow.

                            • Newest response: A (time limited) research treaty to catch up sounds well, we should agree and let it start with Alphabet/Iron as was planned. Later a deal WC+contact for Writing could be done.

Nathan, can you do me a favor and PM me the result of the superbowl as soon as the game is over? Not that I care much about handmelon , but I have a dear friend there in Tampa (or rather St Petersburg/FL) and want to send her a mail tomorrow, and I'm not sure if I'll find the result here tomorrow in the morning.

Yep, just as long as you shame him and his team so bad he'll agree to peaceful partnership on our terms. I think he knows Vox has behaved deplorably, and has been brought in to smooth things over. This means opportunity for us.
