  • Replacement required

It is with regret that I tell you that as of January 1 I will not be able to be with you for a time.

Some things have come up that will require all of my attention for a month or two (or more). Therefore, the team will have to find a replacement for me as player and as 'captain' (or whatever it is that manages the group membership list). These could be 2 different people.

I have enjoyed our journey together so far, and I look forward to returning at some time in the not too distant future.

    Keep on Stormin'

    Aww.

So who is going to lead us then?

Sorry to hear that NYE. Thanks for all you've done for us.

I suppose Sir Ralph is the natural choice for Grand Poobah, if he wants to accept the job.

Any applications to be the new Deputy?

(I won't volunteer because I doubt I'll have enough time to do the job justice)
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

I can only chime in... sorry to see you leave, NYE (or at least take a vacation).

As to replacement.... Sir Ralph seems indeed the natural choice, if he wants to. And as his deputy we should take someone who has enough time to quickly play a turn if it needs to be... not for me, I'm afraid. I'm on-line quite a lot, but I don't have PTW installed at work (and I'm not going to install it either, far too dangerous )

          Awww...

I think Sir Ralph would make an excellent replacement. However, if he declines the offer then I would gladly volunteer... or rather, I would have if I had PTW...

It's all good, NYE, you will only miss a few turns or so

It seems to me that Sir Ralph is the natural choice, and then the question is who replaces him as deputy Poobah?

edit: just read DeepO's post above... which said the same thing in nearly the same words. Dude, you gotta stop reading my future thoughts.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck to you NYE, and I hope you'll return soon!

I will take the leadership if nobody objects, and thanks for your support . However, after my work starts again (Jan 13), it may happen, that I get in some trouble with my spare time. So I need an active deputy, with some time to spare, to quickly replace me if I get a close deadline and have to work. We have enough experts to do the math and prepare our turns. All the leaders (or more correct: players) have to do is to play. Volunteers?

My deal is that between Dec 28 and January 5 I will be gone, however, after that I will be available for an active Deputy Poobah position if it doesn't conflict with any of the Diplomacy Scholia issues. I have PTW and have the time, for another month at least.

I nominate Alexman for the position. He and Sir Ralph are both experienced players and I'd gladly entrust the fate of our team in either of them.

hehe... it's funny to see people nominating others, before we know if they want to

So, let me nominate Theseus, not because I think any of the other nominees or volunteers are good, but simply because he started nominating deputies. I don't want to leave him out of the fun

It would be good if the deputy came from the American continent. Not because I think, that Europeans can't play, but out of pure practical considerations. As long as vondrack plays for Legoland, all is fine, as he's the same timezone like I am and probably will send the game at "my" times. But if Jack_www plays for them, he may send the game somewhere 3-4am (for me), while it's evening for him. I can not always play in the morning before work, the "green hours" end at 7am for me and that means we could lose about 12-4=8 hours of our time per turn, if I play when I come home about 7pm. Bad. With an American deputy, we could agree, that he plays the turn, if it arrives after my midnight.

I was thinking along the same lines, Sir Ralph, with one sligth adjustment: we should ask to have our green hours changed to the new situation. It would be best if you picked them so that it's ideal for you (e.g. during your beautysleep)

Yes, I will, after new year. Btw, shouldn't both of us be sleeping at this time? I for my part will go now. Good night.
