Warrior 4 due next turn. Safe to move Hack away from the capitol (sorry SR, I was on crack). Hack moves 9. Will go to the mountains and continue to the North.
Gronk moves 4. More grass with trees, and plain grass.
Grog moves 6. Heading for the mountain. Reveals a row of peaks (the jungle belt is probably North of them).

A quick comment: I like our island. If we end up being alone, we've still got a big and productive landmass enough to be competitive. If we contact no one up North, some quick REXing and a beeline for Map Making should keep us in the race.

I was looking at the screenies this weekend, and I see several good cities to the south of EotS, one squeezed in at the mouth of the river (east of EotS), and one on the gold hill or next to it on a floodplain (I think the hill, actually).
I'm a little bummed about how narrow our pennisula is, and the fact that the best terrain we have discovered so far is riverless.
I hope the north isn't as inhospitable as we are imagining it to be. Maybe we will get lucky and hit a belt of grassland w/rivers south of the jungle we expect to find. Get a FP built up there and things could be good.

I think Flood Plains and Hills is our best terrain actually, we just have to get to Monarchy to make it work.

I guess we will know alot more in the next two turns.
I update the map again, so we can do some testing on the city placement
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

If we can find a research partner, we may want to go for Republic rather than Monarchy. There are more useful techs down the path to Republic (or just off it), and having one partner research Philosophy while the other gets Code of Laws can speed things up a bit.

Yes, of course. By 'Monarchy' I meant any government that will remove the restrictions of Despotism. Once we hit The Republic (or Monarchy), our cities around the Flood Plains and the Hills should be our largest and most productive (unless, of course, we don't put any effort into making it so).

well.. it's one of the good combinations, but not better then some other. 1 fp + 1 hill gives you 5f + 3s under monarchy or rep. The same can you get from 2 shielded grasslands, with 1 irrigated, 1 mined. And with our furs, we can have similar results too... it's good terrain, but as its bonusses come only when worked in pairs, I'd like SGs better.
Yes, if you've got a whole bunch of Shielded Grasslands, you're doing pretty good, but that doesn't happen very often. Thus, having that many Hills around, with the Flood Plains to support their extensive use, is also pretty good. Unfortunately, you have to live with disease.

The land to our north has been, thus far, rather poor. I'm concerned that even if we do find good land over those mountains, we will also find another civ already there. That would be unfortunate, as we would probably have to kill them
