shelter dog? I always find it extremely sad when dogs are given to shelters once they grow a bit too big. Labradors especially. I hope he was treated well, our neighbour had to give back a rescued dog as he was uncontrollable. Sometimes they're just too old to learn

      I wish you good luck!

Oh, something else: I'll be gone from Thursday to Saturday, most likely (not fixed yet). I'll try to get a detailed turnthread up tomorrow, I hope someone can play it.

And something else: CH, if you find the chance to ask MZ about the tech situation, that would be great as well. We're expecting refining next turn, if they offer us Steel, we can immediately start on combustion. Otherwise, we need 1 turn on full tax.

I don't think he was actually in a shelter for long (if at all). The organization we got him through (Labs4rescue) has a system of "foster homes" for dogs they pull out of shelters. He was at a farm in Tennessee for a while before we got him. But yeah, it seems like one of those situations where somebody bought a puppy 'cause it was cute, and discovered they couldn't handle it.

He's not uncontrollable, but he definitely needs work. He has some Alpha tendencies. And he clearly wasn't trained at all - he had no idea what I was saying when I told him to sit at first. I've been working on that, though, and he's doing that now. Stay is next. If we take our eyes off him for more than 30 seconds, he's into something (typically grabbing something he isn't supposed to touch and chewing it). That isn't at all abnormal, especially since he's so young. Labs keep a puppy mentality for a while.

My main worry is how he reacts to many (not all) other dogs: he goes beserk, barking like mad, and straining towards them for all he's worth. I can barely hold him. It's early, though. We've only had him for 4 days, after all. I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude for now, hoping that with training + more time getting used to his new surroundings that he will chill out some.

That alpha thing is the only real problem, nearly everything else (including behaviour to other dogs) is linked to that. As I said, good luck, it's too sad to see a good dog end up with an injection simply because people weren't thinking when they bought him as a puppy.

Yeah, and it happens a lot, apparently especially so in the South.
