  • Backup player or replacement needed!

Just saw a message from Vondrack in the main forum that I'm sometimes taking to long on saves, and he might be right. I simply can't make it every night, I do have other things to do then playing Civ.

So, either we come up with some kind of system so that others can play the save as well, and do so in case I'm missing, or we should find someone else to play the saves. After all, I was only intermediate, and even if I'm having fun most of the times, it is starting to wear on me to play all the saves.

    Any ideas, or volunteers?

I feel bad about it, but I can't promise to play turns for GS.

If the turn thread - complete with orders - was available ahead of time, and all I had to do was play it (if you couldn't get to it in time), I think I could do that.

edit: but I'd love it if someone else would step up. I just didn't want to leave DeepO w/o any sort of backup.

I'll offer to be a backup, though I am also not able to play every night.

It is, as you say DeepO, tiring to play every turn - as I know too well. However, I'm only half the turn-player you are and would not be able to match your planning and MM abilities.

What CH said (regarding the MMing - what you've been doing is pretty amazing).

Ok, if Cort and I both are available as backups, we've got a fair amount of coverage, since he's on GMT, and I'm GMT -5.

        Anyone else wanna volunteer?

maybe we should try something like having the turn orders up ahead of time. For the moment, they are pretty straight forward, in that long term plans are in the Smith thread, and MMin isn't really critical anymore. Maybe I should put even more in detail what the bigger plans are for our empire, so that you can play the save when I'm not available. Oh, and I'm not the best MMer out there, I doubt I'm better then you are.

I am not sure why they are crying. The speed is way up over two months ago. You have a vaction and maybe one other event. I just don't agree that the turns are an issue.

We have seen players sit on turns for a lot longer.

apart from that, it would make my life as a player a lot easier if there could be backups. The times I was late so far were because I couldn't help it, but apart from that, it would be nice to take a vacation from the save from time to time.

I've been freeing up time a bit, so I'll volunteer again... as third in line of succession. And I'm prolly the weakest of us at MM, so, as has been said, the more details are posted the better.

Cort Haus and DeepO have been truly superb... a round of applause is in order.

I wish I could volunteer as well, but I'm thankfully gainfully employed at the moment and looking for a different job.

to the turnplayers, DeepO has been amazing. I can't imagine the work its taken, especially figuring in the forestation/deforestation of the island. impressive stuff.

Theseus, or anyone else, if you got free time, please pour over the coming war and try to make some battle plans. I can probably bring us to where we have a decent army, but I'm not a general, nor do I pretend to be one. That alone would take some pressure off.

And I'll do my best to post detailed plans. As said, the one in the Smith's thread can work for general planning, I'll try to take that a bit further.

Can we make some kind of rule in that if you don't hear from me in 24h after the save has been sent to us, somebody else automatically play the save?

                      sounds like a good idea.

Any thoughts on bringing a former player back to the fold, say Nathan?

I'd love to bring Nathan back, but I got the distinct impression that when he's done, he's done.

Still, it's worth a shot. Anybody wanna try?

I'd like to offer my services, but I doubt that you will leave this game in the hands of a 15 year old

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but what the hell happened to break the team in two? Aeson was part, I've seen his posts, and Nathan? who else was ousted/left?

Krill, the team didn't really break in 2, it more or less disolved. Why? In large because many people were fed up with the attitude on the public forum, in which we were regularly bashed. I think that was the main reason Aeson left (after lurking for a while, he even left GS, but that was more because he then could speak out on the public forum, not implicating GS in the mean time because of what he said.)

The other big reason of course is that this game is going on for nearly 17 months. You simply burn out, especially if you invest as much time as Nathan has. I think he's still around, and will eventually read this thread, I doubt he's going to come forward to play again.

Thanks, DeepO, and I have to admit I sometimes feel burnt out, but the amount you must all be feeling is tremendous.
