  • Turn 188: 730AD

Save is here. I'm starting to play it now, did anyone receive any communication from Vox? I didn't.

I'm going to count how many beakers we need and make, to see if we perhaps can do a 100% tax for one turn without losing on eta if we need it. I suggest we wait before sending this save before we know what Vox had, if they want to trade it to us, and if that is not favourable, how much GoW needs in cash.

As far as I can tell from the save Vox got Nationalism.
    Are we having fun yet?

      Urgent question on starving:

EotS currently has a full granary, plus 1 food. To be ideal with the workers, it should run a -2fpt deficit for 2 turns. The way I remember it is that at first, the one extra food will be taken, then the granary is emptied. Starving only happens when the granary runs dry.

I'm relatively sure it happens like this, but please, could someone give me confirmation? The last I want to happen is to let EotS starve because of a silly mistake.

Thanks OPD... didn't check that yet. Which means we can keep running at full science, and deal with GoW at a more relaxed pace. We can research Med ourselves if we want to!

          Start

          - Hurricane builds courthouse. Starts bank.
          - Cyclone builds worker. Starts worker
          - SS builds worker. Starts worker

          - 259g, elec in 4 turn @80%, 605 bpt, -55 gpt.
          - 34 workers

          Moves
In general, the specific worker moves are not covered anymore, it gets too tedious. Only important stuff is mentioned.

          - 4 mines at the 4 furs and EotS11.
          - 6 RRs at 4, 41, 1, 11, 3, 33.
That leaves EotS currently at 36 (35 after waste), -2 fpt. in 2 turns, I plan on RRing the floodplain Tempest is using, at which point it will become a stable 34spt. This is ideal for both Tempest and BB, and preferred over the previous plan.
          - 1 RR at SS87
          - last worker starts on Hurricane1. Needs the tile RRed for keeping Hurricane from starving.

          - Galley2 moves 1144. Moves close to Antarctica, will do the missed tiles to the North on the way back.
          - our Southern most galley (off the Lego coast) starts 6 from Lego's Intrepid (caravel).. Moves 222, to check out the picket line. Horatio Nelson is at 23, which means that if Lego moves its line each turn, it can spot any incoming fleets at least 2 turns before an invasion. They don't need a sea wall, they can make one whenever they need it.
          - our Western most galleon moves 9666 to uncover some more fog.
          - Northern most galley moves 222. Nothing between Legos Minor and Little Bob.
          - last Galleon (to the South of Stormia) moves 7777. Goes towards Elipolis, passing by ND's scouts (if any are present). Not a lot to do with this one, all fogged areas are going to be uncovered soon by other boats.

          workforce shuffles
          - EotS takes maximum shields, including all furs. 35 spt after waste, -2fpt. 186 shields in the Sistine, 18 turns to Hoover. That needs Medicine from GoW, though, if we do it ourselves we can't risk using the Sistine as a prebuild, and need to delay that eta with 4 turns.
          - Hurricane shuffles to release the furs, and take 2 mountains. Also uses one plain again SS was using. Running -1fpt, but the RR next turn will solve that.
          - SS can now use the irr desert instead of the plain.
          - SA uses one desert instead of the coast. extra commerce was going to corruption, while now it gets +1spt

          - D-ville rearranges to use 2 mountains, and one coast. leaves the irr grass to WoC
          - WoC uses the grass, leaves the mountain for Inchon. The plan is to chop one forest in turn 190, ending the aqua in 3 turns (instead of 4 without the chop). Needs the mountain next turn again
          - Inchon uses mountain instead of hill
          - Elipolis uses hill instead of coast

          - BB uses the RRed plain instead of the hill
          - OG uses the hill, and moves 2 coast to desert tiles (one nicked from WW). Market in 2 instead of 4, but running -2fpt
          - WW uses coast instead of desert. eta of aqua goes down by 3 turns (from 14 to 17)

          - Tornado uses mined grass EotS released instead of bonus grass Sufa can use. No spt change due to waste
          - Typhoon uses normal grass over bonus grass. No change in eta harbor
          - Sufa uses both mined bonus grass, changes market's eta from 31 to 19 turns, timed perfectly with its growth.

          Current Builds

          Eli : Aqua in 6
          Inchon : Aqua in 14
WoC : Aqua in 6 (will be 3 after chop and worker shuffles next turn)
          Inchoff : Harbor in 2
          Diss : market in 1
Santa Ana : market in 14
          Blizzard : market in 8
          Monsoon : Uni in 9
Arashi : ToE in 9 via Palace (needs one more RR for eta of 10)
          WW : aqua in 17
          Tempest : bank in 4
          SS: worker in 2(shows 3)
          Hurricane : bank in 14
          OG : market in 2
EotS : Hoover Dam in 18 with RR (via Sistine)
          BB : lib in 2
          Cyclone: worker in 1
          Tornado : Uni in 12
          Typhoon : Harbor in 10
          Sufa : market in 19

          Other

          - next 3 turns at 70% science should give us electricity, and keeps 200 gold in treasury. we will be wasting a rough 30 beakers, but can't compensate...

we can run 1 turn of 100% tax pending negotations, which would net us 402 g (total of 661). 2 turns of max research, and one turn on 90% should also get us to eletricity in 4 turns, our treasury would be 204 (if we don't spend it on GoW, of course). We would be a little better of in gold, which is primarily caused by only losing some 20 beakers, instead of over 30 like doing now. To be most beneficial, our 100% tax turn would need to be in 2 turns, as 2 markets will complete by then.

For the moment, I'll hold the save for this discussion, to see whether we can make a deal with GoW. The faster we get Medicine, the better.

          - Vox has Nationalism, Lego has not. Lego is at best 15 turns from ToE (could also be 16 if they decided to wait to see what Vox's tech was going to be), we are at best 8. We can afford to do Medicine ourselves, as long GoW does not sell it to Lego and keeps us from it, we are guaranteed to build Hoover. If GoW sells Medicine to both us and Lego, we still will be at least 2 turns faster.

          - The NDA on Chemistry has expired, so the tech is being sent to RP. We will need to wait for turn 197 to get them to the industrial age.

          - ND are now also in the Industrial age, meaning they did more tech deals with Lego. GAUL is dead on their side.

          - I did a quick count on Legopolis, in their GA they can produce 38 spt before waste, meaning 37 spt. This requires them to mind the cow instead of irrigating it, and assumes they have not cleared any more jungle since we established an embassy. We can do the same in EotS, running a small deficit... not bad, I would say Once they have steam, they can get the city to 50 spt though, but it will only last for 3-4 turns (they have 8 turns left on their GA)

          - after the RRing, we're 2# in Manufactored goods again! number 3# (ND?) is one shield behind.

          - save on hold (actually, the game is still open, not saved yet) until we know what to do with the gold situation. Right now, I'm inclined to go the following turns 100 / 90 / 0 / 100 science, but we can't do that unless we get some 30 gold from RP (as otherwise we would be at -28 gold at the start of turn 190). We can ask if they have anything left, of course. But if GoW needs gold, we have to change our plans.

          Next Turn

          - send Physics to RP.

regarding the picket line of Lego: they don't need to move, their ships are forted. Which gives them 3 sight instead of 2... they see everything happening in the sea between us. I'll send the galley South, to check if there is any chance we can sneak by, but I doubt it.

Second, we got coal as the first.

DeepO that is how the starving works last I checked. As long as we show food in red, they will not lose pop.

The major break in this game which we could not help, but were extremly lucky was popping our only hut, and getting a settler. ND also had a settler we believe, but really, getting Hurricane so early on was a small miracle.

After that, I think we did moderate, some wins, some losses. Coal was good to have, but with our terrain not really a surprise. Nationalism is certainly ok, but Medicine could have been better (Steam would be the worst, but even that would be manageable).

Oh, and thanks vmxa1, I'll keep it like that then. 2 turns of starvation, and the rest is smooth sailing. I'll have to recount the exact tiles to make sure we won't overrun our GLib prebuild too soon, but will have to wait on Medicine to know for sure.

Damn. My computer crashed, Civ first. I'll have to replay. Am I glad I keep detailed logs, or I should start figuring out all of the tweaks again. I'm going to replay it, setting research to 100%, assuming RP will deliver the 40 gold, and GoW doesn't need our help the next turn. I haven't heared anything yet from their side...

Sae replayed, and safed this time. Ready to be sent. I'll wait for comments on the ND message, I'd like to include that in the save-mail.

Oh, difference from last report is that I set research to 100%, we're currently running 751bpt, -170 gpt, with 259 in the kitty.

Turn has been sent, with message to ND. See the log for details.

I hope everybody had the chance to see the draft, and comment on it, but I had to go foreward. I need my bed, I'll have to wake up in less then 6 hours.
