Yeah, this was related to a discussion Arrian and I had via PM and at MZO three days ago.

(interesting that it's about the Spanish, btw )

I still think we need to mount some kind of threat as a part of relieveing the pressure on RP... force ND to draw back some of their troops, and cut off GoW's eastern passage.
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

Indeed... I doubt we can pull it off right now. Plus, knights only is dangerous... and we have a lot of slowmovers and cats ready.

But what about my idea of pressuring GoW at Port Isolation then? granted, it will not be so impressive as a ND landing, but it's GoW that has the highest production, and creating a beachhead there with few forces could work very well in the long term

DeepO, do we even need to land?

Empty galleys could freak them out as well... and with our superior speed / reach, maybe we could fool them into thinking there's more of a threat than there really is.

(Did anyone ever read the Dorsai series by Gordon Dickson... Dorsai!, Donal Graeme runs a fake attack on a planet called Newton by using a twelve ships harder than thought possible)

Whoops, I see that you have already posted, said message. Once he oks you, you will see a forum for us in the demo game area, towards the top of the screen. Don't be alarmed if you can see titles of threads, no one else outside the forum can.

If nothing else, we can try to take out a galley moving towards us or south that could have cargo..

Only if GoW breaks the NAP. I think they will, but stranger things [than them abiding by it] have happened.

the problem with fooling them is that we only have 1 galley there, they have 3. And the beauty of taking Port isloation is that we can supply it with troops without them noticing... once we have it, we can seriously fool them, by using a galley as a ship transporter, doing the runs, without anyone in there (there are 3 tiles needed for succesful emptying of force, and our galley can make 4... leaving them each turn at a different tile).

Also, a galley alone can take e.g. knigths out of Port isolation, and ship them back to Wittlich in case we would get invaded there, so can help with our defense. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea.

Oh and yes, only in case they violate our NAP, of course. but that doesn't mean we can't prepare now, knights up there will always be welcome to counter riders in case they land. (BTW nye, we face a maximum of a 12-rider landing party in case we don't block the most obvious route, not 6. Those galleys can also land 4 units a turn if used well)

I think the Zaragoza picture is better than it sounds - I dwelled more on the negatives. With average luck, they'll hold it with a few units left. With bad luck they lose it (if average luck is 50%, bad luck is about 90%) i.e. I estimate they have around a 10% chance of losing the town if they don't reinforce it. With reinforcements they are in better shape.

I think we are shooting for large RP forces in Zaragoza and Pamplona, each capable of standing ND off.

Our first wave secures Toledo, largely.

Our subsequent waves can be used to beat back ND. Ideally. I think we are far better off defeating ND in the fields of Spain and thus preserving Spanish cities and production, than going straight to a flanking force to force ND to pull back.

While we flank, ND can do the number on Spain, and then those ansars can reverse and rush to face us before we can get anywhere important. 9 tiles on roads. That would give them the advantage of interior lines against split forces. That is a recipe for their being able to prolong this war far beyond what need be.

Once Spain is secure, then we can entertain the options of how our fleet can be used to put an earlier end to the war.
