How to handle the map trade?

I think we should handle this like any other trade- using the ambassadors.

GoW- they'd probably be satisfied with a Map-Map trade, and I think that so are we.

As for the other teams- we need to set the rates, I guess this will be a small sum of gold, perhaps around 50-100, what do you think?

Sadly, I don't think I can devote myself into anything more than GoW during my exams period (which is now).

50 gold would probably be too much for most teams... I would settle for 20+WM (after making sure we have most of their WM anyway)

GoW is the only exception, they have explored most, and should not be asked gold.

After we decide on a (minimum) price, I'd like to start contacting Lego to see if that's acceptable

I'm sure that most of the teams have Vox's map - which shows a significant portion of our territory. Add in an embassy and there isn't all that much more to see.

So I'd be very happy with a straight map-map trade with GoW, and happy with 20 gold +WM from the others.

I recommend that we set the minimum price at 20g+WM.
However, let's not approach every civ (except GoW, with which we want to do a straight map-for-map deal, I understand) with the same initial offer like we did last time - we all remember how it ended up.
Offer the higher price to the civs that we think are likely to be able to afford to spend gold and will want to buy from us, and offer the lower price to civs like RP.

First of all, let's just ask if they are interested, and what they want to give us in return (keeping in the back of our minds the minimum price, of course).

Our WM is still worth something, not only because of our territory that hasn't been explored yet, but most importantly because we're the only ones who can traverse sea tiles. We should exploit that as much as possible the coming turns...

Yeah, let's solicit offers and then counteroffer.

A public annoucement in the main forum would be best to get a good number of responses, imho.

One thing that might make it much more important for other teams to buy our map is if we have a harbor built, e.g. in Sufa. By selling our view of it, we should be able to have trades (not only 1-sided, but 2-sided). Is there any possibility of rushing that harbor, so it becomes available in the next turn or 2?

Maybe, but it might also trigger the same events that have happened when we tried to sell Feudalism around (we researched Feudalism and sold it to GoW first, but then our clients started disappearing one after the other; GoW whored off our tech, and we became the biggest losers out of that affair).

We lost that deal because we appeared unwilling to budge. No public announcements. All we need to hear is public sarcasam about our decision, and we would have been dealt another blow.

Private negotiations. "We are willing to sell our WM, what would you pay for it?" We know our price (as set forth earlier in the thread). Either they meet it or not. If they didnt, then name our price and see if there is middle ground.

Exactly. That's the simplest form of negotiating. It's also the best.
