C'mon give GoW credit where it's due
Sure - I will freely admit that the GoW ranks have managed to cultivate a mighty impressive smell over the last two millennia. Congratulations. We can smell you all the way across the channel, and GoW items never need to be branded as such in the market - their sellers get complimentary gas masks with every purchase.
Tibi, you know the routine... DoWs must follow certain guidelines - you never simply say "we've grown tired of the peace and wanna finally have some fun" or "we're rich and mighty, but want even more" or stuff like that... it would be considered bad manners.
This DoW was just perfect - I guess even Beta would be proud of it.
Yup - although I would have dropped the 'nothing personal' part. War in civ3 is personal.
Furthermore, it could have used a few lines about economic and cultural persecution, including the great donut embargo of 1015, but most importantly, the line about the warrior blinking which was a clear precursor to Lego aggression.
But overall, I liked it.
(a more thorough examination of the DoW, including historical parallels, can be found in this month's edition of Misinformation Weekly, which is available on newstands every second Friday.)
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
Short, direct, not likely to be misinterpreted... really quite well done.
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

1/4 Sub attacks sub U-Q1 (2/4). 1/4 Sub sinks. Lego sub promotes, 3/5.
Total: 1 bombardment, and 2 battles. We lost a DD and a Sub.
Jesus...
This is easier to believe when you are the "blessed" party... the overall odds of U-Q1 surviving were what? 10%?
It was a 82% chance of winning the first battle, after which another 41% chance with the 1/4 Sub. In total 10.5% chance of U-Q1 surviving... not a bad guess, Vondrack!
Oh well, these things happen in civ. I wish there would have been better news to report, but so be it.
The 3/4 DD was H.B.S. Tisiphone
The 3/5 submarine was indeed U-Q1
We couldn't see the sub, as we ran into it with our DD. No chance to record its name. But based on its location, it should have been the U-Q1.
That sector of the sea has been hotly contested the past few turns, but it was nice to win the fight, after having lost 3 ships to that sub. Congrats to the crew, they should receive a medal for their endurance.
And you think we are afraid of some building blocks??
[Sorry for the spammage... now back to your regularly scheduled battle reports. ]
