  • Armageddon in the Land of the Monkeys

As posted in the Save Game Comments thread, d-day has arrived for the Simian Civilization. On this last turn, two armies of significant size crossed into monkey territory and now lie adjacent to the fortified town of Simian Deep.

    The Python stacks consists of:

    4 muskets. 6 swords, 11 spears, 30 longbows, 2 horse, and 15 catapults for a total of 68 units.

    The CoD stack consists of:

    8 muskets, 1 sword, 21 longbows, 14 horse, and 23 catapults for a total of 67 units.

There are also some settlers, workers and warriors. My humble apologies to the military planners of CoD and Python if I miscounted. Base eight math is complex.

Now, the monkeys have not simply been sleeping in the tree tops. We have been preparing. And we get the first punch. Poo is loaded and ready to fly.

So, the question, as Hot_Enamel asked in the Save Comments thread, who should we attack. This is a poll of world opinion. We would respectfully request that members of CoD, Python, and Monkey do not vote.

And please note that the poll will obviously not be binding on the Monkey Leadership.

(also note - no banana option for all you fence sitters out there. C'mon, make a decision. )
    11
    Python
    36.36%
    4
    CoD
    63.64%
    7

    The poll is expired.

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Hmmmn, I'd need to know your exact troops numbers too? Without them it's a tough call, I would say go for the one with the most cats, as if you can capture them it wouldn't just be a cat gained by you it would be 1 lost by them too, a "2 cat swing". That would imply CoD but then Python have the most longbows although they also have more defenders. So I dunno maybe you should all just surrender like the monkeys that you are. Wait no I mean, yeah fight to the death while we stand by slowly building muwhahahahahahahahaww

Mental note, Cod and python have GP and SP,
    Are we having fun yet?

What does it really matter? Didn't you get that memo from Darwin? - the Monkeys lose.

What the hell kind of Monkey are you leaving out the banana option? For heaven's sake, your people should have the option to enjoy as many bananas as possible before meeting their inevitable demise. If you're going to die, die fat and happy. I think Tabemono would agree with me there.

Only knowing the composition of the approaching armies, it seem like CoD is a slightly 'better' target.

With a low margin though, terrain and composition of monkey forces may change the balance in pythons 'favour'.

Well, Beta, that's what comes from throwing monkey poo at people.
                    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

Thanks, Beta, I'd forgotten to list the exact numbers in our stack of troops (so we know how many you've managed to kill when we open the next turn). I think there is a total of 70, with 1 settler, 1 warrior, and 1 spear missing from your list.

Whatever you do, I wish you luck. Bad luck, of course, sorry.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

My first reaction is that taking on the Python stack, you have to get past 4 muskets and 11 spearmen before you get around to hitting any attacking units, and even then you're facing 6 swordsmen rather than the longbows which form the bulk of the real attacking threat.

With the CoD stack, you have 8 muskets, 1 spearman and 1 swordsman, and then you're into the happy business of chewing up their longbows, although that depends on longbows being attacked before horsies, which may not be the case. Do some tests, and count regular vs vet vs elite troops. If longbows are preferred as defenders over horsemen, then CoD is the clear winner - it gives you the best odds of taking out significant numbers of longbows, which gives you the best chance of keeping the city.

But I''m still voting for the banana option.

I think if defense ratings are the same, hit points is the next determining factor, followed by overall ratings (some amalgam of attributes) - which would mean the longbowman would defend first.
