  • Messenger services

I know many Poly posters use various Net messenger services to contact each other, and this comes in quite useful for team Democracy Games. What I am opening this thread for, is to try to determnine what these programs are and which is the best, because then those of us who don't already use them might be able to speed up some of the contact between our teams. It is not always possible for me to check PMs on Poly and respond, but a Messenger service might be easier for this task.

I know of ICQ and MSN Messenger (or something) - are there others worth thinking of, and which is best?

Plus then of course we should all swap contact details so each team can at least contact the others....

I use AIM, since I'm on AOL.

SirUlias if anyone cares to add me.

I won't install ICQ. Too much solicitation and unwanted crap came my way, and I couldn't figure our how to block it right away.

Don't know about MSN. Is it free?

As far as I'm aware it's free, but that's the limit of my (uncertain) knowledge. AIM, eh? Alright....

      NO! MrWhereItsAt is USED!!!!

So was UnOrthOdOx. Why do you think I got SirUlias?

Ah. I always thought SirUlias was first.

I eventually settled with the sort-of lame MrWhereItsAt1. All variations I could try of MrWhereItsAt, MrWIA, MWIA and WIA were taken.

/me fears that there are people out there with his name....

            I have a lame UnOrthOdOx3040 as well, but I don't use it.

YenKo was first but got killed for several reasons, then UnO was my online names, so I made UnOrthOdOx3040 and decided I didn't like it, so settled on SirUlias - From an odd version of Le Morte de Arthur that I have. Typically that knight is Ulfias, but in mine it was Ulias.

I'll add WIA1 when I get home tonight.

I know Arnelos, Uber Krux, Panzer, Master Zen, and Sharpe are all on AIM too.

ICQ works fine for me. I've had it for several years now. I remember getting some spammish messages (online hookers inviting me to their site etc..) but found out how to block them(sorry, don't remember how). Worked like a charm ever since.

I know a lot of people use Trillian because it can connect to several IM-services at once, I don't have any first-hand experiance though.

OK, have downloaded AIM and added 'SirUlias' to the list, yet have not yet seen you online.... What am I doing wrong?

So, I only will be on that in the evenings and early mornings.
