  • PTWDG II: Team Puritan

Might as well give this a shot, to gauge interest...

There have been more than a few silly teams proposed. Well I say silliness is... silly! What the PTW DG #2 needs is a SERIOUS thematic team, I say, and what can be more serious than a little law, order, and discipline?

I propose the formation (presuming interest exists) of a Puritan team, designed to bring stability, quiet, peace, good worship, and attractive (but never snazzy) modest clothing to the world. And how will we accomplish this task? HARD WORK! And faith, of course.

Allow me to outline the potential laws of the land:

    * No fun. EVER. That means no luxuries, no collosseums (sports are the Devil's work), no marketplaces (all that noise!), no hiring entertainers, and most DEFINITELY no Shakespeare's Theater. A serious and altogether not-at-all-playful mood will be maintained at all times on Team Puritan. Incidentally, I fully approve the seizure and fortification (without roads, of course, to ensure non-use) of luxuries, as part of the greater quest to make our world a serious place. Of course libraries and the like are fine, since libraries are quiet, studious places.

    * We MUST establish a firm base of worship to properly educate our children (and, perhaps, other people's children). A temple is the first and foremost priority, followed by a cathedral where prudent. I strongly advise Religious as a civ trait, but that's a bit ahead of things.

    * Suppression of so-called "fun," "love," "sunshine," or other forms of intolerable paganism wherever possible. Of course, if they are a comfortable distance away they shall be allowed to spiral their merry way towards Hell as they please. But any such presence at our borders (and God forbid they attempt to steal from us what the Almighty has appointed) will be dealt with as swiftly as permits.

    * It goes without saying that we will never build the Oracle (filthy pagans!) or Heroic Epic (the only Good Book I know was rush-built by a Great Leader 2000 years ago!).

    * Temperance is a virtue. Money should not be spent unless the fair assembly of landowners decrees it absolutely essential. If a city wants a new unit, let the people work to produce one! It will do them all good.

    * I would strongly advise our flag to be a simple black standard. Iconography is highly suspect.

Naturally, these are all proposals, but I feel it absolutely essential to stem the tide of hippies, pagans, and ridiculous British comedy teams already flooding in one form or another (but mostly one form). Join Team Puritan, and let us shine a bright light of Piety in the dark fog of war that is Sin!

    Hmmm.... excellent proposal.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

      Nice balancing theme choice though
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

To be Republican they would have to be Religious, Industrious, Scientific, and Militaristic and that many traits for one civ would be unfair.

                  Make that double-militaristic

Realistically? Balancing factor. Besides, it's not really all that useful if you don't ever use luxuries (taxes I know, but go with it). I'm envisioning an extremely intolerant and aggressive team that must carefully balance its aspirations against a crippled economy and precarious happiness problem.

Thematically? Marketplaces are NOISY affairs where filthy cheating merchants haggle and scrape for a pithy extra penny. Avarice is a tool of Satan!
