Are you telling me the soviets didn't have parades 1st of may?

(I know the 9th is also a very likely date for parades but the 1st was the first that sprang to mind when I wrote the post)

you are right - they have a day of the labour (as we do too)
but on 9th is the grand parade

And another grand parade used to be on 6 November. Probably is still, don't know if they changed the day from the Day of October Revolution to the Veteran's Day.
