Why is there a turn tracking thread, a turn tracking discussion thread, a battle report thread, a tread discussing if there should be a battle report thread, etc, etc?

This is just a mess and makes keeping track of pertinent details a chore. I think we all have seen this same information tracked quite simple in a single thread in every other game we play. Why should a DG have to be so much more trouble?

Please let us embrace reason and stop with the excessive, superfluous, redundant and just plain unnecessary thread creation…after this one.

    Re: Infinite Thread Sprawl

Strange, I think the seperate threads are ease of use. If I haven't seen the save in a few days and want to find out who's holding the game up, I just look at the turn tracking thread; I don't have to wade through commentary to find a few actual "turn sent" messages.

Some philosophy with the battle reports, I believe. One doesn't have to wade through the jokes, trash talking, etc. that is inevitably posted around the battles in order to get a complete listing of the public reports.

LOL, 4 votes so far, one for each

Seriously though, in a demogame we need at least 3-5 topped threads to help the spices flow. I don't see the need for limiting non-topped threads though as they just disappear when they get old.

Reason... and if all these posts were in one or two threads?

then I think we would have some confusion

I must agree that a thread strictly for "turn sent" is a real turn tracking thread

the same with the battle reports

and there are really people who are spending more than 10 hours daily at poly and people who can't stop posting until their name is listed against every topic as last poster. But I find these two threads really helpful

Ok - a bit of history.

The first Save Game thread was set up by Lord Nuke, but as he did not specify that it was only for the 'turn sent' messages, combined with the fact that we had some folks new to demo game set ups, the thread became a combination of chat, banter, and 'turn sent'.

I set up the Turn Tracking thread, with explicit instructions that it was for simply posting the 'save sent' and that the other thread would be the "turn Discussion" thread, which when it goes to volume two - should be renamed.

The battle reports thread is to record - well battle reports. This was not previously agreed to in other civ3 demo games, so hence you will not find such a thread in the other game - although major wars or battles usually generate some sort of dialogue. There is still an on-going discussion as to what should be revealed in the battle reports thread - hence the chatter.

The welcome to C3CDG doesn't have much in and can, IMO, be te-dppped.

And the civ group and game recipient threads could be combined, but no biggy.

I would like to see the game parameters brought up to a topped thread somewhere - maybe an add on to the new combined team list threads.

So - looks like a lot - but really isn't. And could be tidied up a tad.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

I was just thinking how quiet this forum had become lately - not enough trash talk, no recent battles, etc - when I popped in and noticed this new thread.....now how ironic is that?

But frankly, this is a demogame! There should be lots of threads and discussion between the teams, and the ability to make comments in threads in the public forum is necessary since most of what is discussed goes on behind closed doors in each team's private forum.

I say let's have more threads, and let's liven this game up a bit. Discussion has waned in recent weeks, and IMHO that's a bad thing for the game
