Then again, Bob is a great name. Too bad it didn't make it into the poll.

"pangea eruptus" is wrong in three ways.

        1) pangea is a greek word, eruptus would be latin.
        2) if pangea is used, it should at least be pangea erupta (female form)
        3) (not sure if i'm right about the one) wouldn't it be pangaea? ("pan" from "overall" and "gaea" for "earth"/"world"

        i know... i'm a smartarse...
I have no ability to spell. Well, I can usually, but I claim no ability as to not be responsible for spelling errors. Thus it probably should be Pangaea Eruptus.

I think the -us ending sounds better. If we're mixing languages we might as well ignore the genders of the words as well...

actually the missing 'a' disturbed me more than the "-us"

i guess it is because english doesn't have any different adjective forms for each gender, while all i know or do... (except maybe norwegian, but that's too long ago to remember the details)

but definatly in german, french, italian, spanish, russian, serbo-croatian and latin. probably also in pretty much any other latin-based or slavic language

so you see importance differs depending on your mother tongue

ps: my texts are full of mistakes. many because i don't proofread the posts enough, many also because i do not know it better

hm, interesting... i just found this java based english-latin translator: http://www.sunsite.ubc.ca/LatinDictionary/

the translation of "to erupt" is "erumpere" not as i thought "eruptare".

any people around who really know latin?

Oh, i'm well aware of the gender issue with noun/adjectives etc... at one time i was well versed in German and French ... I mean simply that since the two words are different languages anywho, we should go with whatever sounds best to the ear. Although perhaps that's what you mean about the mother tongue ...

              Any other opinions on this?

Does it not imply that there are 3 words meaning the same thing, one of which is Eruptum (-ere) ?

Though I don´t speak latin, I´d much rather go with the correct form. It´s a pain in the a$$ for those who know the difference, and it won´t hurt us to change.

I know what I´m talking about, for Tass keeps on torturing the German language when chatting with me... It can be really, really annoying...

(Just kidding, I know that was very very tortured. Really.)

I'm fine with it being correct... whatever you all want ...

Oh - and if you voted for something other than PE or EoD, feel free to comment in the thread that you'd prefer one or the other; think of this as a pseudo runoff, since no one item got a majority, only a plurality ...

So...it does look like we will have another poll with only the two names as a choice....is this understanding correct?

Snoopy, instead of combining a second vote in this same thread, might I suggest that you start a new "naming runoff" thread (so that people don't get confused)?

Yeh, and I think the poll should include several choices for the different spelling of Pangaeatius Eruptacilium.

Who cares if the grammar is flawed? Bad grammar is perfectly acceptable when making a name

Besides, we can always claim the bad spelling was intentional.

My bad, I have had no education in either Latin or Greek. Pangea eruptus just came to me and I wrote it down in the Euphorica thread. I assumed someone would correct me if I was making a mistakem, and here it goes .

The thought behind Pangea eruptus was that it seems we're all evolving into a new, aggressive species "Pangea eruptus". Therefore I had added "Dawn to dusk of the unkindest species" (or something like that). It takes a step back in evolution (Homo sapiens -> Homo erectus), to make a few steps forward?

We're playing Pangea, and erectus might not exactly state the proper excitement; eruptus had the right sound and setting to it.
