  • Reign of Modo II

Greetings, great lords. I have talked to the advisors, and here is what I know and plan.

    General information

We are at peace, sort of. Many foreign units in or near our borders mean we could be at war any time.

We do have too many strange builds at hand. I have decided to change some, while letting others finish. The Barracks seem like a very good idea, as we seem to be at peace at the moment. So do some of the peace-time builds. What I would like to see is some infrastructure in the more powerful cities with all others making exclusively units.

I have turned down the science expenses. I also short-rushed a Samurai Archer. Then, I placed at least one unit in each city, just so nobody gets funny ideas about their Yamabushis.

I will try to upgrade as many units as possible during my reign. This one is a no-brainer.

Our military is a joke. It will become a little better with the upgrades. But we still need more units to get some stomp-them-in-the-ground fun. Meaning, I will start unit builds in most cities.

    Issues (please discuss)

Do you think we should pursuee any research at all after the current tech is done? I think it would be better to focus on upgrades and short-rushes (those get pretty powerful in this scenario, as Paddy and Ljube can tell you ).

Should the Settler near Noriko's Seaview go ahead an plant a city, or should he wait there for the next Matsunaga war, to claim a better spot? I would like to wait.

Unless some AI attacks, I would prefer to stay at peace over my 5 turns (It is 5 turns, right?), to gather forces for a larger blow. Or do we have a must-kill-now target?

Below is a screenie of the changes I made. I will save this and wait for the discussion results.

Whenerver the peace agreement with the Matsunaga ends, attacking them for their lands and cities, would be very much desirable. That settler can than indeed settle on the perfect spot.
don't worry about things you have no influence on...

I'd say science at zero, tax at maximum. Also, only barracks, units and commerce improvements, no archives.

It is a shame to have crack troops just sitting there doing nothing, so I suggest we attack someone.

The peace with the Matsunaga is still active -- for another 4 turns. So I guess the next Daimyo will do the honours there.

I decided to leave that one Temple build to get some happiness for the city (it will grow easily, as it sits on fresh water), and to add at least some culture.

As to our military, we actually lack "crack troops", at least as numbers go, so attacking now might be risky. I would rather build some more before we go bonking heads.

Other than that, I agree with Ljube -- no science, just some cash and lots of units. We can pick up techs as we go, through extortion.

EDIT: I plan to play my turns tomorrow night. Any suggestions will be accepted until then.

              Playing now.

              Turn 1:
              • Some Tokugawa entered our lands, so did the Matsunaga. I wonder where they are headed...
              • Short-rushed the Temple in Takasuki seaview.
              • Moved some citizens to get better use of the land.
              • Took control of Workers (Why in the world would anyone automate them???)
              • It turns out Noriko's Seaview can really use an Aqueduct (bonus food around), so switched to that.
              • Upgraded four Crossbows to Samurai Archers.
              • Mid-turn: The Tokugawa seem to be at war with the Oda now. Great, preparing our invasion.

              Turn 2:
              • Bull Wheat has a Marketplace now. Some MM, and it can make a Yamabushi every second turn.
              • Finished some other builds, turning most cities to units now.
              • Upgraded the last two Crossbows.
              • Gathered cash for maps. Some 70 Gold. Used it to plant an Embassy in the Oda capital. Take a look...

Dare say I am "a tad" worried about attacking them?

Turn three, not much going on. Workers work, other civs' units walk across our land. One more turn left of the peace with the Matsunaga...

Turn four. More units done. The Urukami make an Embassy. Good, we need to know about our enemies' wars. I prepare units to attack the Matsunaga. Another Yamabushi short-rushed.

Turn five. The Urukami and the Matsunaga sign peace. No matter. War it is. Five Matsunaga units dispatched, with own losses.

War is on. Unit production is pretty good now. I did Barracks in most places, and finished some defenders (in case something big this way comes, and to free our offensive units from MP duty). We have a bunch of Workers that should probably get those Hills improved, and then get the Grassland a bit more Irrigated. Oh yeah, don't forget to fisnish the Matsunaga...

And a screenie of our situation. The Bushi Army is in Katsuga, resting. That big stack near Katsuga is mostly Workers.

An important thing to note from the new embassy is that most of the units in any civ's capital are locked in place by the AI rule to protect the King.

That is also a good reason to try to buy techs along the path allowing Ninjas.
