  • Reign of Masuro

Masuro rises from his table at the inn, bids his fellow warrior kings farewell, and calmly strolls along the hedged path to the palace.
Taking his seat on the floor he asks his faithful woman servant Noriko to update him on affairs of the state.

(Thread opened. I will post more shortly)

Noriko shows Masuro a map of the kingdom, pointing out the barbarian tribes to the north and east.

"I do not think we have to worry about them for the moment. Let them be someone else's headache. But look at this. We have a group of people who will soon found a new city. Would it better to have them build in the hills where they will be safe, or on the grasslands where they have better access to food?"

Noriko answers, "My lord, such a decision is too much for a simple servant girl. I suggest we call in the other lords and ask their opinions."

"Simple serving girl, eh? If I recall correctly you found out the conspiracy to assassinate a former leader and then led our soldiers to the traitors' headquarters."

"Indeed, my lord. But it was luck and nothing else."

"Hmm. Anyway, please call in the others."

Noriko heads to the inn and announces that Lord Masuro needs the advice of his fellows. When they arrive, Masuro points to the map and says, "Shall we settle on the spot indicated by our first emperor or on the hill just below it?"

I think food is more important at this point.

I'd very humbly sugest the proposed green city site as our first new city. Fish and Wheat adviable immedately. Hills adjoining as well to quickly convert that food into shields.

Micha, The one plains city site I see on the list would actually be the last of the 3 from capital cities I'd build.

Or are you sugesting a new city site?

3 from the green spot. There's not that much grassland available and there's more than plenty of hills around. Moreover, it's accelerated production so we'll do well enbouh on production.
don't worry about things you have no influence on...

I would go with the Hill 411 from the capital (numpad directions). We will need the Grassland later on for growth. Plus, placing cities too wide is no good anyway.

The advisors leave and Masuro says, "Well, perhaps I should order the settlers to build on the grasslands."
Noriko pouts and says, "But lord, I so wanted a place to go and look out over the ocean. You know my home village is located in such a place."
"Ah, Noriko. How can I refuse you when you look at me like that. Very well. And I will name the new city Noriko's Seaview."
And so it came to pass.

As the settlers were preparing to build a new city, reports flooded in of Matsunaga settlers and warriors heading north. If they come near our new city I will have to ask them to leave, thought Masuro. But I will think about that later.

In July of 1458, the nation's second city was built on the hills overlooking the sea. It was named Noriko's Seaview and, considering the Matsunaga approaching from the south, a unit of Asigaru started training. Paddy the Scot's chain gang finished the road east of the capital and then headed for the forest to build a road for the beaver trappers.

One day that month, Masuro was walking about the palace grounds and thinking that the walls looked rather flimsy. I think we need to do something about that, he said to Noriko. Go tell the imperial thinkers to devise a way to build strong walls. We may need them should the Matsunaga prove hostile. And tell them They can have 5 gold talents to assist their research.

(That's what's happened so far. I will play more turns tomorrow. Comments welcome.)
