  • The Return of the King - Emperor Aquavian Lungarius, the Merciless

Friends, Countrymen, Romans.....it is with the most humble modesty and an over-riding sense of duty that I report to the glorious Senate and people of Rome, my activities since being re-elevated to the rank of Emperor.

Behold, Rome is on the rampage. I publicly applaud my predecessors for the tools of destruction with which they have provided me. I have turned those tools ruthlessly upon the Macedons and the Celts, yet I share the glory with my predecessors, the honourable Emperors of Rome, for their unswerving dedication in building our glorious Empire.

Behold, I now present for you a report of the carnage I have ordered our Armies to inflict upon the enemy.....now defined as anyone who is not Roman, or under Roman dominion.

Report of the Emperor Aquavian Lungarius the Merciless

    40AD

Very little to do here. Emperor Modo has moved virtually all units towards attacking position for me, so I’ve been left with only a couple of Garrisons to move into the border Greek Town, in order to ensure it is not taken next turn.

    45AD

Herakleia taken (renamed “Age of Aquarius” in honour of…..oh, me ). Troops moved into position to attack Pharsalos and Phocaea next turn. Meanwhile, we continue to soften Celtic defences, and move all available troops within attacking range of the Carthaginian city of Oea, as recommended by the Senate (and dutifully accepted by this Emperor ).

The rest of the Warriors in PolyRoman Carthage have been upgraded to Legionaries.

I don’t like the Gothic strength up north, so I’ve begun moving troops up there just in case. We seem to have plenty of strength to account for the Macedons.

Meanwhile, we have loaded Armies from Sardinia and Corsica into Galleys and sent them back towards the mainland. Operation Troy (let’s hope the Macedons have no cryptographers) is in the planning stages, with the objective of dealing a symbolic blow to them, at the same time opening a second front in their south .

Meanwhile, Carthage has declared war on the Scythians.

    50AD

Captured Phocaea from the Macedons – renamed Desolation Row (Go play the DemoGame if you want that explained ). Attacked the next Macedon target of Pharsalos, killing many but not enough, leaving a wounded Hoplite defending the city.

Captured New La Tene from the Celts – renamed Frank Zappa.

Captured Hallein from the Celts – renamed Masters of War

Captured New Lutetia from the Celts – renamed Velvet Underground

Razed the Carthaginian town of Oea. Made peace with Carthage, accepting 7 of their piddliest cities in return. One of them (Giza) actually had Incense, increasing our luxury count to 6

One of our mere 6 Galleys has been sunk. Another Galley on the way to Troy filled with 4 units is redlined. It is inconceivable that prior Emperors felt that a strong Navy was unnecessary in this land of ours surrounded by water. We have therefore rushed some 8 Galleys in the south of Italy to compete against the plethora of Macedon Galleys sailing in our waters.

Scythia and Celts sign a peace treaty. Clearly Brennus wishes to make peace with his enemies before his demise. Brennus asks to see the Roman Emperor, but pity and clemency are not on our mind.

    55AD

Celts and Persians sign an MA against Carthage. Go figure! Darius also wants an MA against Carthage with us and an ROP. Guess what I told him

    Captured Durotorturum from the Celts

Captured Atuatuca from the Celts, stole their last 258 pieces of gold and sent their leader Brennus to his Pagan God for all eternity. The evidence speaks for itself

Report of the Emperor Aquavian Lungarius, the Merciless, part 2

      55AD (continued)

Meanwhile, the brave crew of the Galley Sicilian Defiance, redlined by the Macedons, throws caution to the wind and continues their voyage, offloading their precious cargo of Legionaries and Heavy Cavalry upon the undefended hills of Troy. However, the Legionaries already camped on the hill have sufficient strength to defeat the light garrison, and Troy becomes Roman.

Needless to say, Helen is given to the Roman Commander, who has his way with her in the most vile ways imaginable. She is stitched up by Roman surgeons and left to heal for several weeks, after which she will be brought to Rome and taken by the Emperor Aquavian Lungarius as a concubine.

These events have dealt a mortal body-blow to the Macedon people, who have surely lost all morale. In addition, they are now faced with Roman soldiers on two separate fronts, north and south, forming a pincer to their capital.

Aahhh, the Emperor Donegeal would be proud of this development, reminiscent as it is of his faithful Werhmacht and SS training

We pause for a moment to honour the brave captain and crew of the Sicilian Defiance, who is severely damaged and will surely soon perish from Macedon fire before she has a chance to limp to port for repairs. Yet she incredibly weaved her way through the maze of Macedon Galleys to deliver her fatal cargo to the pretenders of Troy, and shall be ever remembered by Rome for her sacrifice

Report of the Emperor Aquavian Lungarius, the Merciless, part 3

            55AD (continued)

Meanwhile, our Armies captured Pharsalos from the Macedons.

We then lose no less than 6 of our new Galleys to Macedon forces, however the damage is done, since one Galley snaked through their defences and landed on the island of Artemisium.

            60AD

Our Legionary Army destroys 2 Hoplite regiments on the island of Artemisium, then waits patiently for the chance to attack again in the knowledge that reinforcements will not be coming for some time. The Macedonian control of the sealanes prevents any backup in the short term.

There are now no less than 160 Gothic Teutonic Warriors on our border, on their way to lodge their axes in the brains of unsuspecting Macedons, at our urging

An optimistic expeditionary force of 3 Legionaries and 3 Heavy Cavalry land on the hills outside Ambracia, as 2 more of our suicide Galleys thread their way through the Macedon blockade and again their brave crews leave themselves exposed to Macedonian wrath and desperation.

A bunch more of our brave Galley crews are dispatched to a watery grave, including the aforementioned, yet still they keep on manning their posts for the glory of Rome and the honour of their Emperor.

The Macedons and Scythians sign a peace treaty. In a strange turnaround, the Macedons and Goths also sign a peace treaty. This cannot do (particularly with 160 of their troops on our border)!! We sign another alliance with the Goths for World Map plus 170g.

            65AD

            Ephesus is captured.

            Salonae is captured.

With so many Macedon troops now deep within our lands due to the gruelling pace of our Autumn offensive, we pause for some intensive “ethnic cleansing”

The island of Artemisium is captured. Ambracia, on the Macedon mainland, is also captured.

The former glory of the Macedonian Empire lays smoking and in ruins. Having opened up a second front and stretched the Macedonian defences beyond endurable limits, our troops are now on the doorstep of Athens itself.

And as the tired old Emperor Aquavian Lungarius hands over the reigns of power to the next brave Emperor, the invasion of the Macedons is fast becoming a rout!

            Here is the southern front:

On a side note, the Macedonian control of the Aegean sealanes has been crushed, and their presence in the Mediterranean is on the wane. From a few rusty Ferries, Rome now has a fleet of 14 Galleys with 12 new Galleys being completed next turn.

Most new troops are being sent south, to board Galleys and cross the narrow channel to Southern Aquarius, now the quickest route to Athens.

                    And the final toll?

13 cities captured and 1 razed!

What's the current victory condition status?

Oh, and if we paid cash for the alliance with the Goths we should have payed in GPT instead, so that if they screw us by ending the war early they don't get to keep that cash.

Be sure to rush some baracks and Garrisions in the new African towns, particularly near Egypt.

It might be a good idea to buy the Carthigan map to give us more info about Africa and then sell it.

Point taken about the Goths, though it hardly matters at this stage. And besides, I need to go to bed - it's 3:20am

Yes, the preparations were long, but well worth the onslaught they brought to the Macedonians. Nice party, Emperor.

Indeed, and I again tip my hat to you and your predecessors for the part you played in preparing the well-oiled Roman military machine that is now annihilating the weak and powerless Macedons
