  • State Of The Empire

Polls will follow shortly the following is just my thoughts and some action I already took. I could not have ended this turn with out making changes.

I have spent many hours looking at the save handed to me by the last Emporer Senator Skrobism. I have made several changes and moved several units.

Firstly i have used any heavy cav and legion units that had movement left and could make kills to do so.

In particular I moved a garrison unit from Conopolis to Optima Forma, this town had a Scythian rider outside and only a fire catapult to defend it. This however still meant the enemy unit had two worker targets to attack so i moved a Heavy cav from the lost dreams garrison to kill the threat which it did with no loss of health.

I used the Heavy cav in stolen wine to attack the archer at 4 which it killed and recaptured a worker formerly captured by the celts. The cav was promoted to elite and is slightly injured at 3 of 5 hitpoints left. The recovered worker moved 3 to the protection of a Legion.

In olbia there were two legions with movement left so I attacked and killed a carth elite HC and redlined a carth elephant who retreated to 7 4 of olbia. no promotions but no HP loss.

We had three towns building citizens and several building galleys I have changed most build orders throughout the empire to Legions HC and garrisons units where appropriate.

Citizens are to my mind absolutely unecessary builds at this time we already have 5 in waiting.

Galleys are perhaps a sensible build but right now we have large numbers of enemy units at the gates and I feel we need troops more than boats.

There are some reinforcements on the way to olbia and also wines to die for but it would be better to rush build units in those cities rather than risk ferrying them there.

We would have to build galleys in all our core cities for 9 or 10 turns to be in any position to threaten Carthages navy so why bother!!

I think Olbia can hold and with the reinforcements enroute and some rush built troops I think Caralis will soon be ours.

As for wines to die for well again some rushing and some prayers to the gods that the boat nearly there can make it unscathed.

I will be posting some polls soon, please accept my apologies for the delay in starting my time in office.

I would really appreciate Senators looking at the save posted by the former Emporer and pointing out anything that they feel I may have missed, I have not yet ended this first turn but have saved with my changes mentioned here.

The points stated are all valid ones, I think.

As I have said on The Senate Floor, I feel that we should skip rushing Garrisons (although keep building them, of course). They are sitting ducks for units with 5 attack, and they can't attack effectively, so we get little value for the money invested. Instead, we should focus on rushing mostly Legions, and some Cavalry in hot spots. We need them to be able to kill attackers, before they come too close.

I think rushing Barracks in cities that still don't have them would be a good idea. They are dirt cheap, and this way we wouldn't get Regular units by accident. Aquilea, Beneventum, and Optima Forma are the most important ones, being able to build offensive units. Actually, they might be able to simply build Barracks without any help.

There are kills possible this turn near Utica, and Saldae (Spain).

Time the builds in our core, to waste as little shields as possible. Micromanage cities for 8, 15, 23, 45 Shields (Legion), or 8, 15, 30 Shields (Heavy Cavalry). Unwasted Shields, I mean. This can dramatically increase our military production. The cities are static, so once done, this will stay in effect.

Don't be afraid of the apparent lower stats of Heavy Cavalry - it more than makes up for them with faster movement and the ability to retreat. We have long borders, and we MUST be able to react quickly, shifting units thousands of miles if needed. Legions can't do it effectively. 8 Shields give a smaller loss for Heavy cavalry, while 23 Shields give a smaller loss for a Legion.

I am for rushing Legions, because if we do it near the enemy, their low movement rate doesn't matter so much, while the defensive bonus for the area is substantial.

Reall good job, emperor. I don't we can do anything more

          Rush Legions in
          Cubathon - 108 gold
          Conopolis - 148 gold
          Brundisium - 160 gold

Wines to Dye For - barracks (28 gold)

          totally - 444 gold

You may chain-move some troops from our core to the eastern front too - get garrisons from cities where they are not needed to keep population happy, move them to the nearest city and fortify them there. After this move troops from that city to the next, etc. until the you reach border cities. When the core cities produce legions, move the legions to the battles and return one by one the garrisons

Macedonian ships are sailing in our waters and they sould keep carthage busy - you have done well cancelling the galey builds

            Chain movements

See the Senate floor for one chain movement I deem neccessary.

Mad the two Kills pointed out by Senator Modo and another in briton from Vesontio.

Attacked the Celt archers at 7 from the city killing one outright no HP loss for our Legion.

Benevetum is not at much risk if you right click on the units outside this town you will see they are badly injured except the top Rider

If it has a defender, they'll probably leave it alone. They are dumb enough to try an escape.

Citizen were left in place because there was a request to take the islands. You can't take the islands without new cities.

Notice I said "left in place" honoring the directives of past Emperors and the Senate. My new build orders and rush builds were for units, or city walls. Military builds were requested by the Senate in my Poll.

on the naval abandonment. We never had a chance against Carthage there. As well on defending the cities that need it.
