I have to take umbrage with your wording, by the way Paddy... I'd suggest "Do we WANT consuls" is better. I'd say we don't NEED them desperately, but I want them. (So I voted yes anyways<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.

hahahaha my wording
indeed Senator Snoopy the Cat
I see your point
well from my side of the Senate floor I see that now we are down to 5 turns per Emperor, so let him humble himself on the floor of the Senate
Let him stand tall and know we are not to be ignored
Let him know the power of the Republic
Let the world know truth in our time
Let not others stand protection for this servant of the people
and that be my statement
What be yours Senator?
Why do you want these Consuls to operate?
Why should 3 Senators be raised higher than the reast of us?
I look to hear your answers this day so we all can share in your wisdom

Having an Emporer set in this timeframe is actually wrong when Rome was actually a Republic, the time of the Emporers was much later.
I voted for the ConsulsA proud member of the "Apolyton Story Writers Guild".There are many great stories at the Civ 3 stories forum, do yourself a favour and visit the forum. Lose yourself in one of many epic tales and be inspired to write yourself, as I was.

I'm against the idea for consuls. The DG were always played by one person after consensus between all members. I don't see a reason there will be more positions except the emperor - this increases the bureaucracy only. Everyone who wants to help should do it. I have seen two DG failing because there is high interest in the beginning and at the end there are no people who want to play. There were not enough people to fill the positions and at the end there was only the president who played the turns alone (I mean DG III).
So, let's decide what are our first moves and start the game this weekend at least.Last edited by ormuzd; November 8, 2004, 16:37.

With the way the format is established - I would like to see a government structure without consuls. Let the Emperor play the 5 turns, and let the senate floor be the forum for debate. This should give rise to some fun debate and sparring - and a lot of roleplay.
I would hate to see us get into some of the 'stuff' related to consuls and elections and personalities that some of the other games have gotten into. This is supposed to be fun and light. Let's not micro manage ourselves to death. Afterall, we are playing the AI and not Lucky or GWT.Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

If we were to have consuls, I like snoop (Ithink it was his idea) of having the previous and next emperors act as consuls. It would provide good continuity, but would not be "historically" accurate, or in keeping with the theme. When you come to power - you get what you get and you do with it what you think is best. You answer to the senate floor, and of course, The Almighty Banana.Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.
