Hello. The first turnchat is taking place shortly, at the below times:
Thursday 1400-1600EDT
= 1800-2000GMT
= 1100-1300 San Francisco
= 2100-2300 Jerusalem
= 0400-0600 Sydney
= 0600 - 0800 Friday for ME (NZ time)
What the Javelin Thrower is a turnchat?
A turnchat is where the Despot (or President or Supreme Lord of the Land, or the Most Regal Tea Cosy in the Land, whatever they call themselves ) will actually play the game following orders from the helping Ministers (if any), taking into account feedback from those who can join in. Discussions will be held in real-time in a chatroom using a program called mIRC. Click on this link to find it if you don't have it, and then on the download link on the left hand side.
Once it is installed, you will need to join the Apolyton.net server and the #civ3dem chatroom as follows:
(With thanks to UberKruX for making this post a LITTLE easier!)

(sort of)
...
for the advanced people this is all you need:
Server: apolyton.net
Channel: #civ3dem
for the people that haven't used IRC (Internet Relay Chat) yet, there are 2 ways to get into the chat.
Using IRC (assuming mIRC is installed)
1. when it opens it'll say you should register, ignore it if you see it
2. it'll ask for a full name, an email address, and 2 nicknames
3. I just put Si G for the real name and email, and my nicknames are WIA and MrWIA- (the second one is just in case someone has your nickname)
4. Your nickname should be SOMETHING like your poly name, if not the exact thing. we need to recognize you
5. Click on "Add"
6. For "Description", type "Apolyton"
7. For "IRC Server", type "Apolyton.net"
8. "Port"stays at 6667
9. "Group" and "Password" are not needed here. Leave these blank.
10. Then make sure that "Apolyton" is selected in the "IRC Network drop-box.
11. hit "connect to irc server"
12. a lot of text will scroll by, and there might be a few failed connection attempts. let it run for a while. if it fails, choose another server.
13. when it connects a box should pop up, labeled "mIRC Channels Folder". type "#civ3dem" in the box (no quotes)
14. you should be in the chat at this point.
15. if the channels box didnt pop up, you should see a LONG textbox at the bottom of the screen, type "/join #civ3dem" (again, no quotes) and you'll be in.
if you dont want to download mIRC, there is a java client you can use
hope this helps you guys.

if you dont want to download mIRC, there is a java client you can use
- go to http://apolyton.net/misc/chat/room.shtml
- if your browser asks you to install the java components, approve them and let them install.
- a box should then pop up, which looks like a chatroom.
- type "/join #civ3dem" (no quotes) in the line where you would send text (bottom line)
- you should now be in the chat.
hope this helps you guys.
