Cheating sod. You know that in Chieftain your gold must drop to zero the turn before you start to lose units/improvements due to a deficit? That way if you get 1g every turn through map trades with other civs you can stay current at a deficit of -anything.

the challenge of Diety and now Sid is great

eventually I hope they iron all the bugs out so we can get some sid level PBEM's running
