  • Barbarian Island

    After looking at the save, I think we should plan the conquest of Barbarian Island pretty soon. It is only a matter of time before our monopoly on amphibious units expires, and it will be much easier to take this island from the Barbs than from the Spanish or the Romans.

    I think we should get three triremes there (4 berzes, one pike, one settler), so that we could settle on Barbarian Isle in two turns, after wiping out 8 hapless Barbs. The remaining barbs should be easily disposed by our berzes in later turns. For safety, we should bring two more pikes during the second turn.

    In the end, we are gonna gain one extra city (always good given our situation), which will be very easy to make 100% safe pre-marines, for little to no expense. Besides, it is possible some later resources (coal or uranium) are hidden in these mountains. Lastly, the city could be a launching point against a possible attack on southern Spain, being 5 squares away from Valladolid.

    Its not 8 its 40 +

    Risky.

      They are likely to be 8 on one tile, and we don't need more than that to land. All have 1 defense (we have 6 attack). And since they are on mountains, they can't attack all at once: only one stack after another.

      That's about 6 to 7 horsemen attacks on first turn. With 2 pikemen (fortified on hills), we get two units with 5 defense (3 + 75% of 3). which is likely to hold them of.
      If we fortify the remaining berzes in the city on second turn, we add up to 4 defenders in the city (3 on defense). The Barbs will pretty much be harmless by then, but one extra pikeman would help if we are unlucky.

      The best thing to do would be to settle the island right after having rushed a project. This way, even if our defense fails, the Barbs won't do anything more than pillagin our inexistant treasury.

        When we investigated the Barbarian Island some turns ago we found 40+ horsemen at 7-7-8 off Athribis so if there are only 8 on the tile 7-7-8-7 and we are able to land we will be attacked by 40 horsemen. What will your calculation show us then?

          Sorry, I'm still not up to date with this.

          In this case, more defense units will be needed indeed, or stronger ones. We can't afford the sizeable navy to that effect as long as we are at war with Spain, or as long as we aren't higher techs (caravels and musketmen would be a really immense relief)

            we could always use the berzerkers to attack form sea to slowly kill the barbs to a lower number, menawhile hoping top get them al lto elite status, if the berzerkers remain on ships they wil lbe safe ....

              yes, add to this the barbarian galleys have had an amazing success rate against our galleys...

              add in then the war with spain, and we may have an issue on trrop and galley numbers for taking these both on

                I suggest we wait for the war with Spain to end. Then, we'll send some of our plentiful berzies in caravels, and dispose of those Barbs.
