I wouldn't mind trying one of the new ones.

regardless of which one we pick, it should be Industrious. That will be a great help to our DM's and Govenrors, especially if we do wind up playing on a Huge world.

Expansionist would very feasable too if we pick a huge world. It could be fun too, I for one, never played much with the expansionistic civs, so that would be a new experience.
Maybe we could even play England

Clearly, we should play the Americans. The fact that America is my favortie civ has absolutely no relevance to this assertion.

I also think that we should pick an Industrious Civ - I find it hard to play as anything else in SP because I can't stand those slow workers.

The Americans are a great Civ, but their lack of a UU makes them a bit less interesting. I'd rather we went for a Civ with an Ancient or Medieval UU.

I also think we shouldn't be Carthage, since we're them in the ISDG. I know the membership isn't the same, but still.

Not Egypt again either - for obvious reasons.

At this early stage I would suggest we play as the Chinese. The Ottomans might be good too.

There's plenty of discussion still to be done, though.

I want an island hopping game - lots of water and lots of small land masses - therefore I want the vikings.

I agree, the civ choice depends on the kind of map.
I like the industrial trait too, but maybe we should try something different...

If we are Americans, we may not get to the UU or it would be irrelevant.

The Ottoman UU (Sipahi) comes at the right time and is very powerful (+1 attack compared to calvary) and it cost the same as calvary. We can covert our knights to Sipahi. I think this would be the best UU. The Ottomans are Scientific and Industrous, which is good.

Carthage is very good, also. Their UU (Num. Merc.) cost 10g more than Spearman, but they are basicly early Pikeman. We would not have to worry about upgrading until Musketmen.

I would vote for either of these, but the Ottomans are my first choice.

This idea appeals to me too.

Personally, I would think NOT being industrious would be more interesting. It makes the Worker movements more strategic in nature BECAUSE they are slower.

Vikings are interesting, I also wouldn't mind Korea because the lack of ability to gain a GA through UU would add another strategic element to the game as well.

Any civ, provided it is commercial; unless we want a really challenging game : neither industrial nor commercial.
                          Statistical anomaly.

Good grief. Industrious? American? Carthage? C'mon people - our combined expertise would make any such game laughable. Let's go for a real challenge, like the Koreans or some such.

Ideally, a civ that's either Military + Expansion, Scientific + Expansion, or Military + Scientific.

This would maximize differences between both the first DG & the MP one.
