  • Discussion: Too Many Topped Threads?

I happen to believe there are too many topped threads. However, I want to get public comment on which threads people want to keep topped and which they might like me to de-top. For instance, while I think that certain threads (such as the Arc De Triumph thread) would best be served by having a link in the directory and being de-topped to conserve space on the front page, there is a Senate Bill mandating that it remains topped

Other threads have very useful information that is good to have on the front page, but I'll agree that the front page is a bit cluttered with topped threads.

    I welcome comment on this.

Oh, please note that the passed ammendment is only being topped until it is added to the NewCon document (since it is, legally, already part of the NewCon).

The bill mandated that the Arc de Triomphe thread be referred to in the first page of the Directory, which is now done. I believe that it was topped by courtesy awaiting the Directory update.

So, there is no longer any need to exacerbate the anti-french feelings by the impertinent presence of three French words on the first page of the forum.
      Statistical anomaly.

As long as the New Con is Refered to (i.e. linked to) in the Directory & is referenced by the President's THread, it can be De-Top.

I don't think there are too many topped threads, but then again, I generally visit the forum at least once a day. I know it gets more out of hand when you don't visit poly frequently.

IMHO, the Arc de Triomphe, the NewCon, and the Court thread can all be detopped. The former is important Apolytonian history, and the latter two are important, period; but, (no offense,) I don't see any of them as being necessary to day-to-day operations.

But I'll also be happy if only the amendment is taken down.

There should only be ONE topped thread, and that is the Directory. If it is a Key, or game critical thread, it should be linked thru the directory and does not need to be topped. If it isn't a Key or game critical thread, it should be allowed to fall off the front page.

I wouldn't go that far. I still think threads important to day-to-day busniess (the Presidency thread and the latest orders thread at least) should be topped along with the Directory.

Nice to see you think the Directory can stand alone, though.

When i entered the DG about 2 weeks ago, i had troubles finding the latest save, and it took some time before i undetstood what the good of the directory was...maybe it should be "DIRECTORY (good stuff for newcomers)" or something...

And then everything important could be in there...

The government thread can contain info from the presidency thread, and the constitution. That would collapse 3 threads into 1.

Also the Directory which should be seperate, but contain the Arc'd Triumph. Thus makin 2, 1.

                        Thanks for looking at this.

I have also always liked the idea of one topped thread, a directory.

Perhaps all new topped threads remain topped for a day or two, then detopped and put into the directory. That way, you don't miss anything new.

This thread should be topped, just for the irony.

Others such as turn chat times and ammendments and elections and important polls can be temporary.
