  • Current Science Situation!

The AI has conspired against right thinking Apolytonians: So, do we change research goals or change current spending levels?

It is my 'expert' opinion that nothing needs to be changed.

What do you think is necessary?

What Thud is referring to is that some of the other civs have Democracy before us. We were planning on getting it first and techwhoring away.

Perhaps you could give us a list of options for research, Thud?

We have shown we can conduct military campaigns under a Republic. Even without the GA, we will have our FP up and running, and this should at least almost gives us a type of "second GA".

I don't think Communism is needed at all. Even with war weariness (which will take a while to affect our lux-plentiful cities), I think with a well-enough planned first strike we can survive as a Republic. or even Democracy.

But if the warmongers take over (with Aggie running for President...) and a focus on winning by domination and fast, a communist government would serve our purposes beautifully in our quest to annililate all who oppose our Glorious Utopian Communist New World Order and the Great Banana.

                Unbelievable!

While the test of time has proven the course set by this administration of going for Demo and techwhoring to be the wrong strategy, we now have so many beakers invested in this fiasco that there really is no option but to continue.

However, the AI's are all now in Anarchy with zero, nada, zilch beaker, shield, or gold activity. Perchance has anyone inspected the interim turnchat saves to determine which turn they went into Anarchy? I am usually bw bound and do not get anything but the finals. If their Anarchy has just started, we might be able to jack it up a notch or two and start out more or less even steven on the next tech, and I don't mean Free Artistry. The choice had better be TofG or Magnetism. England has almost undoubtedly been researching Magnetism since it allows their unique unit, so England probably has a head start there. However, their research potential is less than Germany. I expect Germany to start on TofG as soon as their Anarchy is over. It's a tough call.

I think the odds of success are better with TofG, but the potential payoff is better with Magnetism. You can count on England to pay up for their UU (if they have any funds)

One thing is for sure. No matter which way we go, the AI's have access to the choice and will plan accordingly.

Let's go with ToG- If ithere is something we have good chance whoring this will be it, IMO (although this is what we thought about Democracy...). We might have a shot for Newton's this way, but Magnetism is also a good option- just reach that Industrial Age-

Actually, there is no good candidate, and will ever be so as long as two AI research engines are current re techs. They will be on different paths to maximize our pain.

Changing to ToG will take 11 turns to Research currently, compaired to the 4 now for Democracy. I'm still working on getting the Science Improvements online. The FP will help some too. But we should continue with Demo for now.

Unless the FAM is able to get it from the Peace Renegotiations that are this turn. Then we should go for ToG then Mag afterwards.

Do we want to go straight to Industrial techs or work on Free Artisry. I say Steam Engine for Coal & RR, get FA through trade.

I agree, but where is Thud to shed us some light and give us some insights for his plans?

Or is he lurking in his secret lab somwhere in the deep Apolytonian jungles?

I suggest we buy Democracy this turn and then immedately start researching Free Artistry.

And increase the Science rate to 50% to improve our chances of getting FA first.

I suggest we continue as we are, after we get Democracy, I suggest we move the slider to 0%, buy a tech that has a succesor tech available, then max out our research for the successor tech. We really shouldn't bother with FA, I can't see the value of biuling Shakespeare's Theatre, especially since it's a gamble.

When we go into the Industrial Age I suggest we research Medicine -- we need it to get ToE, then we techwhore it, buy or trade for Steam Engine, research Industrialization & Scientific Method.

The Deep Apolytonian Jungles are slowly being chopped down, so soon I won't have an excuse!

There are a lot of courses we could pursue, especially going into the Industrial Age. A few examples:

I suggest we continue as we are, after we get Democracy, I suggest we move the slider to 0%, buy a tech that has a succesor tech available, then max out our research for the successor tech. When we go into the Industrial Age I suggest we research Medicine -- we need it to get ToE, then we techwhore it, buy or trade for Steam Engine, research Industrialization & Scientific Method.
                              I like this one.

Otherwise, I beleive we should finish off Demo, and then switch on over to Theory Of Gravity. I don't like our chances of obtaining Magnetism, and frankly don't feel that magnetism is one of those techs that one needs ASAP. Theory Of Gravity will give us a whack at a Science wonder, and we even have a GL if we somehow feel the need to use him for that.

Moving into the future: Pretty much anthing goes for the first half of the age. Only real thing I'm opposed to is any Nationalism related techs.
