I would like peace for a while to build our internal defenses etc. But war before nationalism probably would be preferable. This chat I will begin moving the units to "defensive locations". ET, if you would like to, I'm sure its ok if you downloaded the save and move the WF as necessary.

Go ahead and move your pieces, I won't need the save until late Thursday to early Friday. I still have to start compiling my orders.

In my experiance, the AI almost always renegotiates peace treaties in which they are paying GPT for nothing (besides peace). Unless we're ready to go to war with England next turn, I'd suggest we renegotiate peace now, on our terms. (IIRC, you cannot make a counter-proposal on a peace treaty unless you're at war; if you're at peace, you must either accept their terms our declare war.)

There is no need to renegotiate peace. Peace will not expire. Our current deal is peace, they give 17gpt and we give dyes. They seem to like this deal and have not complained or asked us to end it. We like this deal, so I did not attempt to renegotiate it for what might turn out to be a lesser deal. Furthermore, this deal has no time period attached (all renegotiated deals are promises for 20 turns), so we can end it at any time without a rep hit.

We only renegotiate to try to force them to give us a better deal and/or extort a cash payment from them.

Sometimes it's best not to renegotiate, especially when you know that they will not agree to the previous terms. A good example of this is our current incense deal to Rome. It's a "dead deal" that's well past it's 20 turn promise to sell them incense. If we renegotiate it, they would refuse as they already have incense linked up and are possibly selling it or shopping it to someone else. If we attempted to renegotiate, we would get a lousey deal or no deal at all.

Whoops. I didn't realize we were trading them dyes in return. Sorry; I thought they were giving the gpt to us for nothing.
