  • Machiavelli Institute: Getting someone to Declare War on us while we are In Republic

One of the good things while being in Republic and it's relation to War is, that if someone else Declares on us, we actually get happier people, for a time.

The first 5 turns would show an increased happiness for our people. I have no idea exactly how it it is calculated, but I do know that Marketplaces effect the overall increase.

The next 5 turns would be status quo in happiness. THis would be as if we weren't at war at all.

The next 5 turns would start showing the effects of war weariness and would increase every 5 turns.

The Question is, how do we get someone pissed off enough with us to have them declare, especially at a time of our choosing?

The effects from the Elimination of America has stained our reputation with the other Civs. Otto is Furious with us. Otto also has Copernagus. We might have to deal with him fairly soon. but what would you say should get him angrier even more?

The topic is open from here.

    Interesting thread.

We can always ask for tribute. I personaly think we should finish off France before even thinking about going to war with someone else. Realize our Manifest Destiny!

      - I agree with Duddha, dealing with france is more comfortable for us right now, maybe dealing with germany can be done in the time between cavalry and rifleman, but i think this window will be extremely short, if even exsitant, as germany is well ahead in research.

pissing france, on the other hand, seems like a good option in the near future.

        Interesting...

Speaking of war declaration (DoW), you hardliners should also realize the possibility of alliances. If France gets powerful allies,
this plan would be as deadly as a blackplague-infected rat.

So if such a war becomes inevitable, we should take every
precautions not to get involved in a world war. It would be wise
to slow down the gameturns when we are to discuss/poll upon
        such a strategy.

On that stage, the Foreign Minister has to work closely with
"the senate" when he wants to piss the Frogs off, to achieve a DoW...

Cool, someone called them by their proper name, frogs

          --------------------------------

Seriously, now... this is very unlikely to work. The AI is pretty dumb, but generally not that dumb. In my experience (and that may differ from others'), the AI only declares war (even when greatly pissed off at you) when they think they have a fair chance of not being stomped into the floor.... If we have a stronger military, the AI won't even consider it.

If we want to go to war with France, it is highly unlikely we can induce them into declaring war on us... we have to declare war on them.... with the resulting problems with war weariness... Which means either a very fast war with cavalry or we wait for factories and police stations (but have to deal with riflemen or potentially even infantry...).

The frogs won't declare war on us you say...
Hmm, Perhaps you are right? We are playing on emperor level,
I can vaguely recall that. So those things would be more difficult than we think.

The only thing I can think of is an RoP that expires with enemy troops in the territory, then harras them to leave. But Apoly Diplos loathe the RoP. And so do I. But this might work.

France got allies before, and we got Persia.

the only thing that could hurt us now is Rome or Germany.

The aztecs may deal an initial blow but we'd recover.

Still, one of these days we are going to lose a city, and then the S--- is going to hit the fan. By letting ourselves be attacked, we give the enemy the initiative, and let him place his troops in a position of his choosing. Considering that we don't have railroads, this makes me a bit nervous. I would hope that if, when we attack France they would be unable to get anyone on their side. Germany or Rome could cause some serious problems, and even Greece or England could hurt us. The Aztecs are really too far away to do us any harm though. And Russia isn't all that powerful.
