  • Current war plans

These are my tentative plans for the persian war, up to gordium.
    Current Troops at Front

    1 Elite Horse(2/5)
    3 Elite Sword( 1 at 3/5)
    5 Vet Sword(1 at 2/4)
    3 Reg Sword( 1 at 2/3)
    2 Elite Pikemen
    1 Vet Pikeman
2 Vet Spear(including spear from Loveshack)

    Troops by force
    Southern Force
    2 Horse
    2 Elite Sword
    3 Vet Sword
    3 Reg Sword ( 1 at 2/3)
    1 Vet Pikeman

Northern Force( will approach Tyre over mountains, this force also has defense assist duties)
    1 Elite horse
    1 Elite Sword
    2 Vet Sword
    1 Elite Pikeman
1 Elite Pikeman(Joins force when no enemy threatens geoforce)

    Curents plans
Horse from SF will attack Sidon first, (turn 2)swords will clear up rest(use reg sword first)
Rest of force at least 2elite,3Vet will proceed(starting 1N of sidon) ne,n(atack tyre on turn 4)

NF will wait for archers to attack or will wait till they move away and once they are all at full strength will gather at point 1 S of geofront and then go e onto mountain( this should happen turn 3)
Each stack will have a Pikeman for protection.

When tyre falls we concentrate forces there and eliminate remaining archers to our rear.
Once a force of 6 swords is full strength we go E
Allowing 2 turns for resting we go east turn 7
Turn 8 army crosses river e of tyre
Turn 9 army ends 1 N of Gordium
    Turn 10 we attack Gordium
Also while this is happening reinforcements who took longer recovering will proceed eastward and hold road.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome

Don't know if I should post this way, but I will repeat some suggestions I made in another thread:

The best way to approach Tyre would be along the mountain route: once the archer stack E of Geofront has been taken out (either battering against our entrenched pike, or by strikes from the city), then move onto the mountain, then hop over to the mountain SE, to lay seige to Tyre from the heights. That approach maximizes defense against counterattack.

We should wage this war by throwing our elite units into battle, to try to generate leaders. Attack the archers on the mountain with the 2 elite units in Geof. Move more elite sword into Geof (from the stack E of Ubergorsk, take out any surviving archers, then grind towards Tyre.
We might consider bypassing Sidon and heading directly for Gordium (with a combined force, once Tyre is in our hands). With luck, Sidon might grow, and we could take it rather than razing it.

By the way, we should hook up the Persian acquisitions with roads quickly (maybe using that worker stack now clearing jungle outside of BHQ, once their done chopping and roading), to accelerate reinforcement and clear more jungle around Ubergorsk. We will be counting on creating culture here, to help strengthen our grip on the territory we acquire from Persia.

Ah, well, while leading my regiment around the highlands, I picked up this letter to home from a centurion of mine, and I thought I'd post it here, as a letter from the front. We are all in high spirits, and we can't wait to take out some Persians. The letter will no doubt touch you deeply.
        ---

A Letter to Ma and Pa, From Mount Gastronome, Persian Highlands

        Hi Ma, and Pa,

This is your only son...Gnaeus Claudius Cornelius Publius Marcus Gecko. Remember me? I thought you would, considering I'm your only son. Well, here I am approaching Tyre, walking o'er the mountains, and slipping on the snow. The lot of us in my veteran regiment of swordsmen are right pleased to have such a great leader as Aggie taking us into battle, and we can't wait to sink our respective gladii into some Persian tummies. The time has come to strike, as Aggie says. We want to go on to the Pyramids, and kill some Persians there. Once we've taken those, we might make peace with the Persians, or we might just kill more of them. Luckily, because most of my men have homicidal tendencies (those that would worry most people in civilized life), I think we can easily break the Persians when we ourselves go up against them. I am really enjoying my experience, and collecting them on papyrii in my autobiography, The Life of a Great Big Pain in the Neck, which I expect to publish in my waning years.

        Love,
        Your Son,
Gnaeus Claudius Cornelius Publius Marcus Gecko (Your son...),
        Centurion

P.S., I seem to have forgotten to pack an extra shirt. Would it be too much to ask if you sent me another one? Or two? Or three? Or four? How about five? Perhaps six?

P.P.S., If it's not too much trouble, I'd also like a couple more pairs of pants...

P.P.P.S., And perhaps you could send me a toothbrush? Thanks...

P.P.P.P.S., And how 'bout some coffee? The stuff they dole out here tastes like mud...in fact, from observing the cook yesterday, I have a very definitely feeling that mud it may well be...

Thank you donegeal and history guy for you kind words, its touches my heart to think my centrians think so much of me. Robber barron, the north force will attack from over the mountain, what the archer stack does will effect our movements some. I'm hoping they throw themselves at our troops in geoforce. With 2 elite pikeman there it could be good and maybe a great leader. If not i was going to see if they come down before going in to attack them in the mountains. You probably noticed that in my original order the Rally point was just s of geofront near the mountain over looking tyre. So we are pretty close. I really want to wipe out sidon mainly because I really don't want an enemy city that close to our iron. During the last chat we got quite a scare when a spear landed on our iron, we were afraid it would destroy the road. Luckily we killed it, but it was close. So I intend to take sidon, however i might send just the regular units there and hope the horse and a reg sword can do the job, I'm sure they can. Then maybe i could bring the main force n and engage the enemy archer force if they don't run. I'm still deciding. As far as the road i was just about to PM white badit about using the workerd near napolitan for making a road over the mountain to tyre.

Thanks to you, General Aggie, we got through the somewhat dicey situations of the last chat and have made it to the superior position we are now in. We are all ready to take down Tyre and Sidon, and then perhaps we will find further sucesses to the East.

All of the above looks fine on first appraisal - just remember that we cannot expect our Elites to win every battle - remember that Sword that attacked Sidon and lost? Then the regular we sent in did the job. We can't expect perfect luck the whole time.

Token warning now finished - it's time to kick ass and chew banana gum - and we're all out of gum.

Public Works regarding request from SMC

Okay, I've drawn up the Public Works plans for 70 AD and I'll be able to give you 2 workers in the first turn. I hope no one minds if I post my preliminary plans here for the moment to show Aggie.

Let me know if this is acceptable or not! The issues concerning you are under Napoleton (since that's where the workers are at the moment).

              Code:
              Orders for 70 AD

Banana HQ: Worker stack S clearing jungle. Move South Clear Jungle -- -- If more turns are played and these workers finish, move them S again and clear jungle. This tile is SE of Tassagrad
Napoleton: Workers N building road. Road completed. Connected to Germany!! Special request from Aggie, needs road to Tyre. Move worker stack S S SE toward Geofront WILL NEED ESCORT SOON, PERSIAN FORCES NEARBY.. Here, we break up the party. I'm going to send 2 American workers to work on Loveshack area. 2 remaining workers will procede into Geofront. If there are nearby threats, hold workers in Geofront! If it is all clear, 2 workers will head to hills E of Geofront and build a road. Need protection!!! Remaining workers continue S toward Loveshack.   If workers finally make it this turn, clear the jungle E of Loveshack. If workers didn't make it before, clear jungle E of Loveshack this turn instead.
Chiquita: Worker S waiting for orders. Mine tile. -- -- If this is completed, move E and mine mountain. --
Macross City: Workers N waiting for orders Clear jungle -- -- -- Should jungle be cleared, move SE, clear jungle

Do not risk Elite units in battles that could be lost. To maximize chances of getting a Leader, it's better to let the Veteran units do the dirty work and then move in the Elites for the kill.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that.

Is this where orders should be posted?

If so, I'll edit this post with orders in.

Adamada, I originally intended for this to be a place to give ideas and critique plans of mine for the war. But if you want to make it the orders thread it could be or start a new one, where I will post the detailed orders after they are finalized.

Well, mine aren't ready yet, so if a dedicated orders thread hasn't been started once I'm done, I'll probably just create one myself -- no need to hijack your thread .
