  • Uber Isle

I'm not sure whether the following issues concerning our conquest of Uber Isle have been addressed:

    1) Will we build another Galley if the first one sinks?

    2) Will we send a defensive unit along with the Settler?

    3) Will we found a city when another Civ is already on the island?

    4) Will we explore with the Galley before selecting a suitable city site?

    5) Will we consider the option of trading our WorldMap away after we've settled on the island?

    6) Who is to name the city we found?

Could anyone please fill me in?

My answers would be: 'yes' to questions 1-5, and 'me' to question 6 :-)

No to first. We don't need another galley unless Uber Isle is truly worth it. We should wait for Caravels.

Actually, I also don't know if these issues were resolved behind our backs, but that is My Opinon regardless.

        1) We shouldn't during the wars.
        2) We'd be stupid not to during the wars.
        3) If there is a spot for it, why not :P
        4) Maybe a bit, but not enough to delay founding by more than 5 turns.
        5) Depends on how big the island is.
        6) -shrug- Doesn't matter to me

          1) i dont see the need
          2) it'd be preferable
          3) absolutely, or we'll have coastal invasions forever if we dont stake a claim
          4) like wervdon said, as long as it doesnt delay much
          5) um... YES if there is another civ on the island, big NO if there is no one there
          6) ...good question, who's next in line??

If we loose the galley, I will make construction of a new one a high priority.

Other q's not in my jurisdiction.

              5) I do not believe there is another civ there. I believe we'd see a border if there war. We might even get a goody hut. It would be so incredibly lucky if it gave us Education. Back on topic though, I officially advice against selling maps.

I don't know about any question except five, but I thought I'd answer that one...

                5) If there's another civ there (though I doubt it for the reason that Apoc noted) then no. If there's not another civ there, then also no until we've managed to settle every space on the island -- wouldn't want the AI plotting some city in a nasty place there.

AFAIK, there are standing (and turn specific) instructions not to trade WM once we see Uber Isle -- let's see what we can do with it before we give it to the AI. We can, however, to TM trades until we build our first city there...

Apoc, goodie huts will not give you Midieval era techs, as well as Republic or Monarchy. Any hut will give us money, maps, a settler, or nothing.

I think that possibily money-rushing a galley if needed would be a good use of money, as the possible economic benefits of it could be stupendous(should we find the other civs).

Apoc: IIRC, we can only get Ancient techs from huts...

                    1) Yes.
                    2) Probably.
                    3) Yes, if we can get space.
                    4) Yes, if possible.
                    5) Try not to.

Oh well. I never found a goody hut that far into the game.

                          1) Yes, despite the fact that we are at war.
                          2) Of course: besides the war, we can find barbarians, or even another civ
                          3) Yes, if possible
                          4) For a few turns, yes.
                          5) Hum... we shouldn't.
                          6) There's a list, just pick the next guy.
