  • Napoleton's Warrior

Some people say - offense is the best defense! (I don't - I just quote them)

The warrior in Napoleton is two turns away from capturing the German worker, who is currently securing another source of iron (is it their first or second? I can't tell). They might trade this away to one of our enemies.

We could go after the worker. I don't know whether the Germans will recall him, but it'll deny them this source of iron for a while if they do, and we may gain a sl... eh ... foreign employee if they don't.

Of course, there's a risk. Napoleton would be left undefended (brrrr), and there is a Persian settler/spearman stack two tiles to the east/northeast. I don't know if the AI will try to capture an undefended city with a spearman serving as an escort. Any experience is this...?

    Any thoughts ..?

Hey - I just noticed: the spearmen in Loveshack and Ubergorsk can capture Persian slaves in only one turn. A bit risky in Ubergorsk, since there is an archer at our front door (we can't afford to lose that source of iron).

That's one Persian and one German slave.

I say haul the warrior back to a barracks and upgrade him. They're gonna take Napoleton no matter what we do. Leave the worker alone, it's connecting our iron to our Hamburg.

          Let's take the German worker.

If we go and take the German worker, we're sure to loose Napoleton -- if we leave the warrior there, we may well be able to keep it. No guarentees either way, but I'd be against leaving any city undefended, especially if Persia has any troops in the area at all and considering that a city takes two population to start, and a worker is worth only one.

The Iron that worker is getting is just excess to German requirements, as they already have one elsewhere. Furthermore, they can't trade anythin with an enemy - their capital ain't connected to any other nation as of info from our last WM only a few turns ago.

I say leave the Warrior; the Persian units are a Settler and Spearman - hardly an attacking force. Any other force Germany or Persia may have is afew turns away easily, and who knows? Napoleton may become a pivotal base from which to assault Hamburg across the Mountains.

Are there any Mountains left unnamed that we know of? I have a name I'd like to table...

For interest's sake, Germany's large cities of Leipzig and Frankfurt can have very little production, seeing as they are on mostly flood plains. Berlin is a vague worry, with a larger production, but things don't look quite so insurmountable as reading posts here so far would have me believe.

                  Looking at save now...

As at 290 BC (current save) they haven't even connected the Iron yet. Assuming we take Hamburg (or at least pillage that road) we have no need to worry yet about them selling any surplus Iron.

                    Assuming:
                    a) We take out the worker
                    b) They have not connected the other iron

...they don't have any iron, hence no swordsmen.

They have another source of iron connected. As MWIA said the one near Hamburg is just surplus.

Let's see what happens when we move our warrior one tile out. Will the Persians move in? Will the worker withdraw?

We can move him back on the next turn, anyway.
