  • War Academy: War Chariots and our Golden Age

Sir Ralph and others have raised this topic elsewhere. It struck me as being important enough to merit discussion in a dedicated thread.

It is time to build some war chariots, because we are rapidly approaching ideal timng for triggering our golden age.

    Imminent Reasons to trigger GA:
    1) As the early medieval era unfolds, some very useful wonders become available (Sistine's Chapel, Sun Tzu, etc.)
    2) We might well want to build our Forbidden Palace soon, north of our subcontinent core. (We can always palace jump later, to fit new contours after a late industrial/early modern round of expansion).
    3) As we grow in size, and given our central location on Abananaba, we can expect to be attacked fairly soon -- probably by either the Germans, Persians, or Aztecs -- possibly several civs at once.

    Action steps:
    1) build up a small group (3?) of war chariots, and stash them centrally, in a city.
    2) wait for the proper moment.
    3) unleash them when we want the GA to start.

    Thoughts?

If we plan one getting our ga with our charriots, we had better do it soon. Id say once the AI gets musketmen, our chances of having a victorious charriot are very slim. (unless the AI uses longbowmen, then we could make a quick counter attack)

We should use the WCs against the Americans, even if that means postponing our attack by a few turns. The chances of a WC to win a battle against the troops of other nations are much smaller.

What about Barbs? Do we get a GA against them?

That could be an alternative to having to use them very soon, or provoking a war just for the GA.
        Consul.

Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

No GA against barbs, only promotions.

I think we should use the War Chariots after the French war. Since most citizens seem to want to finish off America after we're done with the French, that sounds like a solid plan to me -- deal with the French, use Chariots against the Americans (since the Americans'll probably still be using Spearmen, the chariots will still be effective). Then we finish the Americans, have our Golden Age, and use the boost to build ourselves a culture and economy worth speeking of.

            Just my own personal recommendation.

I agree, the timing should be good. We'll either need it for middle age wonders, or to mass produce units in a much harder war than we've been in thus far depending on what happens.
