  • New Organization Proposal: Lost Island Trading Company

Historically, when Europe discovered the New World there were several colonial attempts by private investors, what I propose is a colonial attempt at the Lost Island ("Uber Island", called it different since the members may want to rename it).

What we need is a settler and a galley after they drop the troops off in France. I figure members can join this organization and then we can lobby the government to send out our colony.

    UPSIDES:
There might be luxuries, other resources, goody huts, or other player civs.

    DOWNSIDES:
Just a one tile island, and the ship could sink.

The galley can make it over there if it moves cautiously... the chance at a colony is pretty exciting, a good opportunity. The earlier we get a colony the sooner it could become a real asset. And what if it's a fair sized island? Whoever gets the first foothold has the best advantage. I'm for it.

I'd rather scout out Uber Island before I can be certain. If the island is large enough for settlement and/or has resources we could use, settle it. If it's too small and lacks resources, don't.

          And nice avatar.

            Key points:

The island is EXTREMELY close to our current capital. If we establish a colony now it shouldn't have too much trouble with corruption.

Even if it's a one tile island it could build a harbor and be a strategic early warning naval base out from our coast before we might potentially move the capital.

Later on ships that might not make it back to our coast could pull in and repair there.

If it IS a land mass, the location of the first city would allow us decent production (close to the capital) to produce workers and settlers to colonize other advantageous areas. I'm pretty sure the resource is a whale based on coloring so we would eventually have one good prodution tile that wouldn't have to be improved.

Epistax is right. I think by now our wise men have agreed that the world is flat and is standing on a tremendous banana which carries it through space.
Still, I'm for colonizing Uber Isle. If it's close to the end of the world then we might be able to take advantage of that and use it for scientific experiments. I'm planning a complicated device that is made of huge mirrors, a set of intricate pulleys and clockwork mechanisms and a chocolate bar that can reflect the light from the great banana and allow us to finally see it with our own eyes!

Good luck in your perilous voyage my fellow explorers, and beware of sea monsters!!

I agree that we should do Uber Island, but the government doesn't need lobbying -- it's already been agreed on . To the point of being mentioned in the Foreign Affairs standing orders, and being mentioned by the Minister of Imperial Expansion and the City Planner (I think I've heard them both mention it at least once).

As far as I know, the plan is to do it with the galley's left over from the war with France, which means it'll be done fairly soon after said war.

                  Just FYI...

I know, but if we form a Merchant Company I'm going try to convince captain to let our members have a 20% discount on bidding for any land down there.

Although, no ones's offered to be a member except me.

                        Ok, lol.

As long as there's something for the Merchant Company to do once we get there , seems like a worthwhile endevour.

Sadly, I believe I probably won't be joining you, since I'm having enough trouble with the (very simple) Beta $ game as it is, and am spending wayyy to much time on these fourms already, so I'm going to try to avoid taking up anything else right now .

If you get it going, however, I might be willing to 'buy in' later, if that'll be a possibility.

If the galley ends at sea and only moved two squares does it have less chance of sinking?

I vote Yes. A colony is just what Apolyton needs, it'll be bringing in more gold, and it may be, like others have said, a new continent.

I don't think so. Something as important as this would surely have been mentioned somewhere and if it has, I've yet to come across it.
