  • Unofficial : Can you upgrade to version 1.29 ?

This is an unofficial poll, and doesn't bind us to anything. It's intend is for informatin purpose only.

As you probably know, we are playing the game under version 1.21f. Many of us upgraded already, but the officials still play with 1.21f.

We didn't upgrade out of respect of those who cannot upgrade, because they have a local version of Civ3, or a Mac version.
However, we don't know if anybody here has such "unupgradable" softwares.
The purpose of this poll is to show how many people will actually be barred from playing the game if we upgrade.

Question is : can you upgrade to version 1.29f

If you already upgraded, please vote yes.
If you can't upgrade, please don't hesitate to vote no, don't restrict yourself.

      Thanks in advance

I have both versions installed. Remember what the Firaxian said, that v1.21 savegames loaded into v1.29 could experience some weird effects. Do we risk that?

Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

          Yes, but should we?
We started this game under 1.21 so we might as well finish it that way. Who knows, maybe there is something in the upgrade that may drastically effect our game. Also, there is the issue with the saves as noted above.

If you don't feel the slightist bit joyful seeing the Iraqis dancing in the street, then you are lost to the radical left. If you don't feel the slightest bit bad that we had to use force to do this, then you are lost to the radical right.

            Who voted no? Explain yourself!!

If we switch, I believe the changes we will notice are:
            * More aggressive AI
            * Techs worth more to AI
            * Change in getting tech speed for Apolytonia (Forgot if faster or slower)

If something really bad happens from upgrading we can always blame it on the kooky "The One" groupie for bringing in his foreign "god".

You know, the one that only he can hear....

1.29 is the way of the future no doubt.

Perhaps the "weird effects" would be interesting.
                  Are we having fun yet?

i have had 0% problems converting from v1.21 to 1.29. none at all. it was a pain to switch back. there is no 'weird effects' at all. who said no, because if all the ministers (and a large majority of the people) can upgrade, then we should.

edit: 0% problems with my saves

Our research will be slower, and so will the comps. The AI now always has the original tech cost of 10 that you have on regent, and it's your research that gets affected by the difficulty level's AI cost factor. Thus on Chieftan and Warlord (with 1.29), research for the human is cheaper than for the comp. On Regent, it's the same as the comp. On the three higher levels, human research is costlier than the comp.

IIRC, Firaxis did this to try to balance out the rate at which the tech tree advanced, so that civs wouldn't still be running around with Knights in 2000 AD on Chieftan, and using Tanks at 1500 AD on the highest levels.

I *COULD* upgrade. In fact I once HAD upgraded. I had to revert back though, since I lack a half decent computer that could handle two installs.
