Exactly why I'm against any "Mil" terms. Perhaps Copper, Bronze, and Iron Bananas and then Paper Bananas?

Oh well, since I had someone in my scribe pool work on the concept here it is:

Seeing as I will be the next Minister of the Economy, I guess the job of naming our curreny will probably belong to me.

Seriously though, we do need to think of a name for our Currency. I like the idea of Lyton, and Apo(s), but surely there must be other fine names. What is the word for banana in french anyone? Or maybe latin or greek perhaps?

I like the Lyton also, with the Apo being the fraction. What will be really fun is coming up with the denominations (a three Lyton bill!) and who's on them.

We're the Egyptians so we should look into Arabic (or ancient Egyptian if anyone is familiar with the language)...
But then again maybe we shouldn't name our currency Mawza (Arabic word for Banana IIRC).

This "currency" concept is actually kind of handy, upon someone's suggestion I decided to use these worthless papyrus sheets to represent one everyday banana. Now you exchange your bananas for papyrus and when you need more bananas just exchange these "marques" for however many bananas you need. This should be a useful alternative until an official currency is approved.

No more hauling banana around that rot before you use them! Not to mention the-oh-so annoying bug swarms......

There is no common word for Banana in Latin, since the banana tree only spread to Africa (from Malaysia) after the Roman period. However, the Latin scientific (biologic) name is 'Musa'.

See this page for more useful info on the banana.

Sorry, but the engravers I had working on the coins were illiterate American captives and they spelled banana "Bana".

Oh, well. Here's an image of a copper and iron 'bana.

Let's face it : Banana as a trade method is a thing of the past. Using them to trade our goods will be bad for our economy, and Jonny told brightly it would lead to an horrible inflation.
We can't allow this if we don't want our rivals to outrun us in the economic race !

We must move forward ! Banana's place is in our temples and in our hearts, but not in our purses ! Forwards with the Lyton !

I propose the following denominations for the Lyton (and their nicknames, like dime and nickel):

1 Apo, .01 Lytons (Bugger- as in, why do they make these little buggers of a coin!)
                          2 Apos (Doublebuggers)
                          5 Apos (Epi)
                          10 Apos (Trippy)
                          20 Apos (Nonit)
25 Apos (Fourth) (not a quarter!)
                          50 Apos (Tassy)
1 Lyton (Spiff, as in buck)
                          2 Lytons (Twospiff)
                          5 Lytons (an Ube)
                          10 Lytons (Peel)
                          20 Lytons (Bunch)
                          50 Lytons (Bigbunch)
                          100 Lytons (Tree)
                          500 Lytons (Big Banana)

I see no need for a 1000 Lyton bill- who in our fair civ will ever be that rich?

Apos and Lytons are good. Though this new currency idea sounds crazy to me. I can't even eat it.

We can't have paper money till we discover printing press, right?
