  • Department of Public Works: Where do we need a road

Since our corre cities should have enough terrain improved around them to last for a little while, the four workers near Tassagrad will probably begin a new road, but where to? The options I see are: to France; to Timeline; and to Seeberg. Personally, I think we should build a road to Timeline, but all opinions, suggestions, etc. are welcomed and appreciated.

And we already have 6 workers (3 slave, 3 ours) building a road to Ubergorsk.

roads are generally just good ideas. We need to build as mant as we can afford to. I know we only have so many resources, but roads are good not only for transportation, but also commerce.

Be carefully to road jungle tiles and don't build more roads than we really need. You need thrice the effort you would need for grassland. And be careful to build roads towards France or Timeline. There may be war soon.

After we take over some French cities we'll need to connect them to the rest of our empire so we could distribute wine to the rest of Apolytonia.
However, starting to build the road right now isn't the best course of action. The war will begin before the workers can complete the road and we'll have vulnerable workers walking around in a dangerous territory where they could be captured.
If we ever build a road to France, it should be after the war (the first war anyway) is through. However, perhaps a road isn't the best way to connect the French cities to our districts. Perhaps it would be wiser to build or conquer a shore city (if Rouen gets to 2 by the time we get there we should conquer it at some stage of the war) and build a harbor to establish a trade network. After all, building a road through the jungle involves a lot of effort.

Good point, Shiber. Yes, after the war is a good time, because then we can plan and build the shortest connection. About taking Rouen: Almost no chance to catch it in size 2, at least under Despotism, because the AI loves poprushing. But we could try to get it as prize for peace.

We need to remember to have enough workers to connect our Iron on schedule.

We have exactly enough workers building for the iron so to produce one road every other turn. (one turn move, next turn make road, repeat). They should all keep doing that.

We should always be looking out to buy more workers. Also using worker production as population control is all around excellent.

Do we need to road to timeline? It would provide us a faster route to the french, but I would assume the galley(s) will help with that. As I said in another thread, Seeberg really needs a worker or two to do some cutting or else it's going to be a lump of clay for the next thousand years.

There isn't an obvious answer, so I'd suggest breaking our worker group apart after they are done roading to the gold, and work on completing the roads at the same time.

We're not sending our entire force by Galley. Personally, I think using Galleys in this war is wastefull. Anyway, a road to Timeline would be helpful.

SOunds good Epistax. Split them up, and work on a variety of things, including building roads to all our cities.
