.) The Iroquois are making a bid for horses/mounted warriors (Oil Springs). They might be able to break out of their vast arid prison after all, though they'll have to do it by making war. Actually, their terrain, while terrible for growth purposes, favors their UU: they should be able to head off any attack fairly effectively, if the AI uses effective horse tactics (which I don't think the AI really does, however).
.) Looks like Rome has a good headstart down in Abananba Minor, visa vi rivals Babylon and Russia. If an early war breaks out there, and legionaires come on line (and Rome does have access to iron, next to Cumae), they might be able to take out the Babs before they can get enough culture up to swamp them.
.) The Americans get to Fragrant Valley first. This works in our favor. I say (and said, in another thread) (here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=56995 ) let them stay there, and hold the territory for us till we take it from them (probably in round two of warfare -- we don't want to autoraze it, and the AI doesn't give away cities with luxuries in their borders).
.) Check out Xochicalco. The Aztecs are pressing in along the northern border, even faster than I expected.
.) The Germans have built up a fair amount of infrastructure. Two size 5 cities already.
.) England may make a mediocre civ, but this version has nice territory, including an optimal mix of resources and growth terrain.
.) The Persians are going to have to stretch for iron, which will be all important to them of course (for reasons Immortal). But it's in range, of course.
Other observations?
