As I posted somewhere else
I posted this in another message, but I also think we should concentrate on our own continent. The island is roughly 5-6 squares away, so there is a definite risk that we will lose a galley loaded with settlers for *no* reason. I think that is a risk we should not take at this early stage. We should focus on our continent and expand to the north east (after war with the Americans).
Please forgive my little screw up on the map. That should read *north east* not north west
By expanding this way, we come into contact with quite a few dyes plus iron deposits which we will definitely need. We know the Americans (thankfully) don't have iron, but we will need to get it at some point, and I think producing settlers to work our own continent rather than gamble for an island we may not even reach is a much greater benefit to the nation.
