i doubt america has embassies. In my experience the ai doesnt build them until the early middle ages.

We only need to build embassies if we are going to use them, so how will we use then right now, are they any use?

Another argument for opening embassies now would be that we don't have any pressing need for our current hoard of gold: no techs we need to prosecute the coming war; no resources to buy; no massive upgrade projects on the near horizon....aka, Unique Unit

probably not. they get cheaper over time (IIRC), and the AI will build them on their own if you wait long enough.Originally posted by civman2000
They last forever, so we might as well get at least a few. They'll probably be more expensive in the future."I've lived too long with pain. I won't know who I am without it. We have to leave this place, I am almost happy here."

uber/// "they get cheaper over time"??!?!
They get MORE expensive with every growth in population, and possibly culture, that the rival civilization has, and it never goes back down.
Right now every one of them cost less than 100$ Later on, all of them will be over $200

i never get them. the AI always gets them for me.
i figured as our empires connected (roads/harbors) they'd get cheaper.
guess im wrong :P"I've lived too long with pain. I won't know who I am without it. We have to leave this place, I am almost happy here."

They may be more expensive in the future, but I bet will be a hell of alot richer in the future too, so if that is the only justification for getting them, then I think we shant. As for getting them to see the defences of the capitol city, in my experience I am always so well prepared for war that regardless of what my enemies have defending their walls, those suckers are going down... too many times in the past i bit off more than i could chew, never will I make that same mistake again. In other words, I assure everyone, if we have enough units at the beginning of the invasion, then we won't need to spend our money on embassies. Once we get republic, it can go towards rushing units and structures - another perk of the Republic.Originally posted by civman2000

Hmmm...yes build them with a few AI, not America though. As tempting as it would be to build one in Washington before the war to see what they have, is it really neccessary? We'll be declaring war anyways no matter what so I don't see the point of opening an embassy with America. If you are unable to read this you are illiterate.

I agree 100%. We need to be prepared to have alliances or counter-alliances when we attack.Originally posted by Spiffor
Problem is : it's highly possible the Americans already have embassies, and use them to make alliances against us. Without embassies, it's impossible to us to make counter-alliances.
Also, learning if other civs are at war would be beneficial to our cause, depending on what civs are fighting. It could make our task easier or harder.

Group 1: yes, in any order, etc. At least two embassies, we are going to war! And a dangerous and risky one, In the War Academy forums we can see how desperate our position are.
