  • A Whole New World...sort of

In case you didn't know, we now know our whole landmass.

Points: some of these are good assumptions.

    1. We are playing a continent game. We know everyone on our continent.
    2. The world is 3 billion years old.
    3. We are the smallest civ with the worst starting position.

    4. *** UBER ISLE IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAINLAND

5.There are approx. 15 units of Iron on our continent, all but ~3 east of the Great Rift.
    6. Persia does not have iron... yet.
    7. There is iron very near Boston...a little west of that is a valley with 5 incense...Incense Valley. It should be easy (and a VERY high priority) to colonize it...after the war, IMNSHO.

    That is all for now.

Babylon has some nice land north of it.... 2 cows, 5 wheat, lots of grassland.... much better than what we have. We may have 1 more city, but they've got better land near them. We have more room to expand into, but then its all jungle.

I just spotted another landmass. To the Northwest of the Greek city of Pharsaulos you can see a coastline. Not of much use to us at the moment but thought I'd mention it.

How do you know Uber Isle is not connected?

Look at the 1400 B.C. map.

              Luxury Resources on Continent:

11 dyes (8 of which we should be able to get if we claim the jungle to the northeast)

11 spices (all too far away to get any time soon)

11 incence (5 of which we should be able to get by settling the Incence Valley)

10 ivory (7 on the ivory coast, but that looks out of reach)

13 wines (if we go for France, we can acquire 2)

Looks like we can really dominate in dyes and we can also get nearly half the incences.

As I see it, we have two priorities - Uber Isle and the Ivory Coast. I think if we send a guarded settler there we could *eventually* control the Ivory part, even though corruption will be bad. That would also be a location for our Forbidden Palace. Uber Isle will be easier to secure, but we need to get it soon.

I think we should just forget the Ivory Coast and head for the Incense Valley instead. Less likelihood of culture flipping, and it will be right near the heart of the new empire... if we win.

Uber Isle of course is a great place too, but I don't think we will be beaten there. But we shouldn't take our sweet time either.

AFter America, I think if we focus for a period on settler production we just might be able to spread all the way to Ivory Coast, dividing the continent with our empire. It might even look kind of like a banana.

I'll say one thing for the map/tech-whoring move: it made the game totally fascinating to contemplate.

I seriously doubt that we'll be able to get all the way to the Ivory Coast. The Greeks are probably eying it right now and it won't be long before they take it. With France to their south, America to their east (at least for now ) and ocean to their west, the only direction in which they can really expand is north. Even if we sent a settler out now to travel the long journey, Im not sure that we'd be able to claim it. Besides, there would be way too much corruption for it to be a half decent productive city.

As for Uber Isle, exploring it is our second priority behind the war. It could turn out to be a nice island with several good city sites , but it could also be a desert island and a waste of resources. Expansion on our own continent anyway is more important. We are a weak nation and need to strengthen our mainland before looking for new land. It is not yet time to explore Uber Isle.

I agree with you Akron, oversea settlement can be contemplated either when we are firmly established on the continent, or if our expansion plans have completely failed.
