  • How shall we honour our past leader(s)?

Here is a discussion thread for ideas about how to honour our past leader(s), either in general or specifically for our former ministers.

(Originally, I wanted some way to honour Trip for all the hard work he's put into being President and really helping us get this game get off the ground in those first few shaky weeks when it seemed like we might not even get started! But then decided, why limit this thread to only Trip?)

    So...

    1) How shall we honour Trip?

    2) How shall we honour our past Presidents?

    3) How shall we honour our past ministers?

    4) How shall we honour citizens who make great contributions?

now that I think of it, there was probably another thread about this same thing earlier... it's probably buried somewhere way way back though....

I believe it was Robber Baron who suggested some type of award that the court could give. Or when we have currency we could put them on money.

      My opinion:

      1) We should name an award after him. Future citizens who contribute greatly to helping the game work smoothly will be awarded the "Medal of Trip". (well, that sounds kindof funny, but you know what I mean.)

or, we name an institution after him? Like Trip's War Academy? (although if anyone should have the WA named after him, it should be Sir Ralph.)

or, we name something in-game after him. But we already have Landmarks and city naming under a different system. Maybe we can create "The Trip Regiment". Hmmm... maybe if his name weren't so awkward...

      2) We should do it on a case by case basis. For example, next time we'll honour Ninot, but maybe not the same way.

      3) I don't know. I can't think of that many different ways to honour people. Possibly awarding them the "Order of Apolyton".

Perhaps it should be the duty of the Historian to nominate people and then a selection committee decides who deserves it.

      4) Same as above.

I designed some medals earlier. I'll see if I can find them.

The Historian should make a shrine to former government officials on a website. "Annales of Trip - Premier President of the Great Land of Apolytonia" or something. You know, whatever.

            Who's this "Red Baron" anyway?

Seriously, yeah, I thought we could devise a medal for distinguished service to the game, conferring "The Order of the Banana" on deserving citizens.
And while we shouldn't necessarily make an award automatic upon retirement of a minister, IMO Trip definitely deserves consideration -- not just as our first president, but in recognition of hard work structuring the game and his continual efforts to tinker and perfect the design as we went along.
We should set up a poll for this, but I'll register my vote yea in advance.

We could do like the USA, and "build"libraries for all past presidents

and for ministers, well, thats what we would have medals for?

I just had an idea : we have no way to name our continent currently
Trip wanted to have a great impact on the whole game. If we name our home continent after him, I think he'll be happy.

Now, are we all on "Tripia" ?

Well, using his name in honour to solve the first part, we could use it for the 3rd/4th parts as well, with anyone deserving of honour could be said to have been "Tripped."

But I think I like the website idea. Maybe the more graphically inclined could actually draw up memorials to some important presidents. Plus every president gets their own library, of course.

Although I guess the best way to honour anyone is to give the "Switch Award." Iskandar Reza may be the center of the world, but I am the center of the universe.

Sorry I was browsing through other threads and saw your name and then realized I had to come back and edit my previous post here.

How about we invent an adjective to describe our people as a general stereotype? You know, Australians loud and crude, NZers sheep-****ging ( ), Poms whinging...

Rather than honour our presidents I think they should be used as general scapegoats for anything that goes wrong.

Phrases such as we only lost that city because of the bad judgement of the previous government and we probably would have won by now if it wasn't for those other fools would help current game moral and mean that the president would be almost infallible while he was in office at least.

                          Are we having fun yet?

I think that buiding bananas wharehouses would be more convenient and possibly more appropriate.

When everyone can finally be able to use 1.29, we could name units that make GL's after either the current SMC, past SMCs, or other past/current leaders.
