  • from the Apolyton admin: NO MORE SPAM PM!!!

I get enough spam in my email inbox and I don't expect to get any in my PM's when I come to 'poly. Especially not daft party-politically biased ones from either the DIA or UFC. If I vote at all then my opinion is not going to be altered either way simply because I get some fatuous PM from a party candidate.

I and many others the spam was no doubt sent to are quite capable of visiting this forum for ourselves ... we don't need prompting or harrassing. Anyone who still cares enough about this game to vote even after it has become drowned in partisan bickering will surely drop by here when they visit 'poly anyway. Being hounded to vote by a spam PM is not needed. Please don't do it again, it is very annoying.

Personally, I appreciate the notice of the election with the comprehensive list of candidates and links to the various polls. However, one PM would have been sufficient.

There are other ways to notify people of the elections, though.

I doubt Markos would have objected to making a news item about them.

It seems like an abuse of the PM system to me. They are supposed to be Private Messages, which to me means that they shouldn't be sent out to dozens of people who signed up to this game.

However, if I'm the only person who has a problem with this then I supposed the system needn't change. Maybe this is just my own personal dislike, but I just hate getting messages like that.

I have received zero PM's concerning the elections, and that's too many.

The only PM I could receive which would not involve me ripping out someone's throat, is only simply reminding people to vote.

Stuff like this is just irritating:

The DIA party just wanted to take a few minutes to contact you during this interesting and important time in our nation's history. As a party dedicated to progress, we are eager to serve this country and do our part to ensure its continuation as an emerging force in the world.

but it's comments like this that really prompted me to complain here:

We kindly encourage you to vote for fine leaders such as Ninot, who are ready to guide our nation into a prosperous future. DIA candidates such as Timeline, civman2000, Spiffor, and Snoopy also deserve serious consideration, and have already done much for our nation and community.

... now ... i have absolutely nothing against any of the people mentioned personally. They may very well do a good job in any role they are elected or re-elected for, I don't know, but what I find objectionable was that the only reason they are mentioned in the PM I got was because they are part of the DIA.
I don't need to be 'encouraged' to vote for anybody. It seems that no democracy, no matter how small and relatively unformed, is immune from attempts to tell the electorate who they should be voting for.
I thought the whole point of a democracy was that the citizens choose for themselves who to vote for, there shouldn't be any 'encouragement', whether it is 'kindly' or otherwise.

            Unfortunate, yes.

In all fairness to the DIA, they warned potential mebers that they woud be PM'd frequently, as this would be how they 'organize'.

Whether this is organization or just party politics at it's worst is another question.

OK, um, is my PM'ing links to my paper spam?

Well, most asked me too, but I may have sent it to a few extra by accident.

Only once have I received PMs asking me to vote for someone in particular, and that was for the Civ II demo game (James Adams, the Englishman who has a horrible grip on the English language).

I have received PMs asking me to run for positions, though.

Done for the Civ2 MSDG. (No real need to do it for the other Civ2 DG, because it's wrapping up)

And I lost said PM (must have deleted it as soon as I got it), unfortunately.
