  • "Turnthreads"

We already know the principle of a turnchat : the Prez, ministers and citizens gather to give input to the Prez, so that the game is played.

I suggest we do a small-scale experiment with "turnthreads" : a thread with an explicit title (such as "43th turn, 2030BC"), where ministers give their input, people discuss, and president follows orders (and says it once orders he did).
A turnthread will end when all ministers (or at least all active ministers) say so. A turnthread could last several days, between turnchats, if needed.

This idea has edges and flaws :
    - much less confusing for the president, who actually has time to do things.
    - less confusing for those who play along as well.
    - it would allow more participation, as we won't need to gather at the same time (I'm especially thinking about Asians and Aussies / NZ here).

The big flaw I see is that it will be much slower, and can't replace regular turnchats. But I think this formula could replace intermediary turnchats if it proves working.

I ask you all, but esp. the candidates for presidency and vice presidency : what do you think of it ?

As one who cannot make turn chats due to my own schedule, I would like this. It would be a way for me to feel more involved in the actual playing of the game.

it def. gets my vote if it means more input, information and general debate for more members... representatives of the UFC and the DIA and independent voters can all voice and debate their opinions on all matters- wheras political parties often 'monopolise' input when they have a representative in office... eg. a UFC candidate can input a debate on a decision that would be made only by a DIA representative, and vice versa.
Do you get what I mean?

      EDIT-
Plus it gives more of a representation of political candidates to members... wheras the voter must sift through pages of campaign speeches a few days before election to get a grasp of policies and the like.

        A fascinating suggestion, Spiff. Thanks.
On the one hand, it would slow play down a lot.
But it would also focus discussion here more on tactics and strategies of civ-building -- which sounds very welcome.
We could cap the amount of discussion at, say, 2 days per turn.
The implication would be that this would be a loooong game. Suits me, since I find the ancient and medieval eras the most fun anway. But I know most players would disagree.

I'm looking forward to a turnchat and I'll know more after that, but in the mean time, each individual turn might have hundreds if not over a thousand posts, things would get lost unless it was taken in very slowly.

I do feel for the people that can't make it to the turn chats. They can read the logs of the chats, but that wont give them any input-- though they might be able to convince someone to share their input for them.

The bottom line is, however, that if the turnchats can be better than turnthreads, they should stay.

If we want this game to end in less than 2 years, turnchats are definitely better than turnthreads. My idea for turnthreads doesn't replace turnchats, but replaces intermediary turnchats (the ones when we play only one turn).

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe we could even have a few more intermediary turnthreads than we currently have int. turnchats, thus speeding up the game.

I'd agree with turnchats AND turnthreads, just make sure neither one starts before the other ends

A turn a day? That seems very unlikely, as each minister, every day, needs consulting, along with any they hire under them, and then the executive branch. I don't think so.

This would slow down the game even more.

                          Why not?

This would slow down the game even more.
Why not try it for intermediary turns, though? I don't see how that would slow down the game.
