Communist/Marxist ideals applied to the game should lead to:

    - A happier population managed by whatever means necessary

    - Early expansion at the expense of our neighbours to acheive two goals:

    a) Room to let our cities grow and become productive as well as making natural resources available.

    b) Our direct neighbours should not be allowed to become so strong as to break out of our sphere of influence.

This should be achieved with as little cost and disruption to the building of the economy and of infrastructure, and without making it difficult to defend our territory.

    - Early investment in infrastructure such as roads, mines, irrigation and city improvements to keep the economy growing and the populace happy.

    - We should formulate a plan of action to cover all likely eventualities.

    - We should pursue a path that will lead us to become the dominant regional power, and then consolidate our position from there.

    - We should strive to know as much about our enemies as we possibly can.

    Additions are welcome.

As a communist in real political belief myself (something of a marxist-leninist, with a few changes of my own to be exact) I agree with the majority of posters here and think you should have saved this thread for a later time. I myslef had considered starting a Communist party, but I would have never brought it up so early in the game. To quote an old republican friend of mine: "it wouldn't be prudent at this juncture". As of this moment I am a member of the Imperialist Party and the UFC which best support my communist beleifs. There are several different types of communism. I believe that the state should govern over the economy and thus reduce corruption among big business and prevent them from taking advantage of the consumer. I also beleive that the people should be entirely responisble for electing the heads of state, and these elected officials should be responsible for making any extremely imporatant state decisions alone. Not the general population (prolitariate) who is often too ignorant to understand. I beleive in a strong military infrastructure based primarily on defending the country from invasion and outside political influences. Under my beleive all forms of education, and healthcare would be completely supported by the state. Thus no one would have to pay to receive a college education or to be healthy. Unlike other more natorious forms of communism I beleive in the freedom of speech and religion, I do not beleive in the police state where it is not neccessary. Unfortunately, almost all forms of communism place a great amount of power into a select few, and it is human nature to take advantage of power. There are so many different philosophies, and indeed many philosophies of socialism. The major ones Being Social Democracy i.e. England's Labour Party, and Democratic Socialism which has never really been tried. As far as this game is concerned a communist or socialist party should only advocate for the switch to the Communist form of government. I would recommend joining one of the already existing parties. In this game, the major issues are weather we're peaceful or warlike and if we keep to ourselves or spread our influence all over the world. If the game were a little more in depth about managing the very lives of our citizens and economic practices, then we could have all sorts of political parties. This game doesn't and it is also a democracy game meaning people are always going to vote for the president, vp, ministers, and on important issues. Thus the basic principals of how the game is run cannot change. So in short, if you want to go to war to win, choose the Warhawks/Imperialists (UFC). If not, join the DIA or don't join a specific party at all. The political parties should be based on how the game will be run in relation to war and expansion. While a little roleplaying might be fun, it would really have no effect on the game itself. I for one avoid RPG's because of the time they absorb to play. With Civ III, I check in on the board once in the morning and once before I go to bed. All I do is vote in the polls and post a few of my opinions.

        Thx

Thanks for all the feedback! I have twice now tried to write a response but AOL disconnected me just before I posted both

Basically, like redstar1 has said rings true to me, he'd make a better head than I. Also OPD and Papa CHubby made good points. The Soviets were hardly peace loving pacifists were they? Also the Nazi's were a form of Socialist, but they weren't pacifists, at home or internationally.

Also someone said I butchered me language, probably because I was typing so quickly (AOL is really bad ATM) But what things about it have I "butchered"?

Also I am only 15, and I don't know as much as I'd like, but I do try.

Again, thank you to LordImpact, I must say I am similar to you in beleif, but you are obviously speaking with more knowledge than I . Again I must stress how I thought of saving the idea, but I thought I may as well start now, and gather some people to decide what we could do in the future (it IS too early to do anything now, until we are bigger and more advanced) I was also roleplaying from the perspective of a civilian in Apolytonia on policies, rather than someone sitting on a chair in front of a PC.

Another post... OK the program will be decided we a few people can "sit down" and talk about what would be best, and then we can take action. But basically what Redstar 1 said would be our policy. As Redstar1 has also posted an intention to form a Communist Party, if he (or she) would be willing co-create one together, I would be happy for him to be the leader going for President, whilst I attend more administrative post of running the party.

Well, "me language" should be "my language" to start, but thats not an important point. Your language is good enough, and given the use of that damned AOL, it is completely understandable. My apologies, and again good luck on your endeavor, while I do not support your ideals, I certainly support an third alternate party to the DIA (Capitalists) and UFC(Imperialists). The more checks and balances the better in my book.

Oh, and by the way, since your party represents a serious of goals or philosophies, I do not think Communism is a necessary advance to attain for you to start your party. But again, too extreme for my tastes, which are comfortably left of center, but not too far.

It is never too early to start a new political movement; and I don't see that it requires a specific tech to start.

Competition is a good thing in politics; the more the better.

Peh. "Me language" is oft used in spoken English by some people, and IMO that's exactly the register posts are in! I shudder to think of what terrible faux pas I am making by using spoken English in a written form!

I tend to agree with Mr. there, don´t see much reason in arguing about grammatical errors as long as the message gets across, everybody understands one-another.

On a different note, I want to know whether this party is actually being formed. Also if you are mergin the Communist party and the socialist proposed by Redstar1 will you use the propaganda poster, it is very cool.

                              Heh

I'm Southern so technicaly I should say "my" I usually pride myself on my spelling and grammar but I do slip. I'll add Redstar1 to my buddies, and anyone else interested. The only thing I ask is that if Redstar's the leader, we at least use the propaganda poster as Papa Chubby said. Also the party IS mainly to provide more flavour and a new power rather than the two main current groups (just becuase we're saying pretty much the same hing now, dosn't mean we wont have different ideas later!)
