Remember to vote for one science option and one lux option! Poll ends in 3 days (Wednesday night). A table of what each setting does is attached, take a look at it too before voting.
We are now paying 5 gold per turn to the french, so our situation is quite different:
    Science options:
    1. No science, acquire it all some other way and get 4 gold per turn .
    2. Minimal science (10-20, only 20 makes sense in our current situation). Get it every 40 turns but still get rich.
    3. Max science without losing money (30-40). Always a nice central stance, but the only tech that we would get in less than 40 turns is pottery .
    4. Lose a little bit of money (50-70). All techs go a bit faster and we don't lose too much...but remember we only have 10 gold.
    5. Option 4, but when we run out of money switch to option 3.
    6. High science (80-100). All techs go pretty fast, but we lose money very quickly.

    Luxury options:
    1. No lux
    2. 10%-1 person in apolyton is happy
    3. 20%-1 person in each city is happy
    4. 30+%-all are happy.

I personally like option 2 (for now). I would like more science but unless we're going for pottery soon it's pointless.

I like option 1. Minimal philosophy spending. The time to turn it to 0 and simply buy will be after we have monarchy. If we get lucky, we'll be able to sell 1 or 2 techs for 4 or 8.

As far as luxuries go, I would favour giving you and Trip the authority to increase it to 10 or 20 or 30% to keep the settlers and archers coming fast furious when needed.

How will getting our money back from France after 20 turns affect these charts?

delsolsi: add 5 gold per turn to every value. However, that is far off and our overall level of commerce will have changed so it's hard to predict exactly.

While I really support strong science, I think that we can't afford loss of money, so I voted for science option 2.

I think we should put science to zero and buy everything we need from someone, but if we don't find another civ soon, we should crank science as high as we can.

Personally, I think we don't luxuries this early in the game, with such low city populations. Just wastes commerce...

                    Oh, one more thing...

I think you mean Bronze Working? Just a little confusing for me when I saw it at first.

But from the table, 10% science gets +3 gold and 40 turns, whereas 20% gets +2 gold and 40 turns.

Surely only 10% science makes sense of these 2

Mtgillespie, you're not the only one who noticed that.
And I'm confused by it myself.
