      Hello

I'm committed to this job. And I can prove valuable experience as a reporter and a newspaper editor

      And a Civ player

      Only one thing. Two actually.

      1) How often will I be required to report? I imagine every turn - how often will turns occur?

If it's every day, then I can't be a reporter. At least not the sole one.

      2) Can I also make silly / joking stuff? You know, like there were in the Civilization I Newspaper *drifts in memories*

Shouldn't Finance be handled by Trade or City Planner? Trade because they have a lot to do with money; City Planner because that's the closest we have to a Minister of the Interior.

Of course. Thats only my opinion. I don't think there is an official opinion on this. It would be part of your election platform.

              Great! Glad to hear it!

              Could be important.

Could be. But remember, for the first month, there won't really be much to report. "As our great leader moved 2 workers in position this year... adjusted the budget, and built a new Warrior..." and that's it. I fear for the Reporter later on, but I suppose things will slow down for the entire game, so it will be alright.

Sure, just make sure you present all of the info accurately (for example, don't say "Our country took a huge cut in taxes", when it was only lowered by 10%). Other than being accurate and complete, you can do what you like.

As two candidates for finance ministry are in compettion for other posts, I'd say we wait for the current polls to end.
This delay will maybe let us find a competitor to Sirotnikov, and the reporter election will be more interesting than another "banana" election.

Spiffor - didn't you hear of the "strawberry" option

I'm not sure if there should be necessarily competition.

As I see it - it's a rather large task, which could be shared by more than one person.

Well, if you need someone to run against, I'll run. But I don't want to win. Just help. (Well, actually, helping the historian write stories sounds like more fun but this is cool too.)

The final time to submit your canidacy is 1700 GMT on Saturday (06/14). The polls will start later that day.

Competition always breeds success. The more canidates who are willing to work hard the better. Though it appears Sirotnikov's enthusiasm and apparent dedication might be hard to beat. Remember, the Reporter more than anything else is not a popularity contest. It is the link between the 'higher-ups' and the regular people.

I would love to run for this position. Vote for one of the people to help manage the people. Vote for me!
"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Ahhh, good. Many people are going for elections this time. Excellent. Now, as a quick tip for all those who plan on running... be a visible presence! The more you get out, get to know people, and make your views known, the better chance you have of being elected! Prove to the public why you're best for the spot! Individualize yourself! If you have the same platform as another canidate, and sit around picking your nose, then why should anyone vote for you? In other words, be a man of the people, get heard, mingle, whatever. Do what it takes for people to talk about your name, so that when they see you on the ballot, they say "Hey, I know this guy!".

Again, a quick reminder, the spots for the new positions close on Saturday, so if anyone else plans on running, make sure to sign up here by then, so that I'll know to include your name in the election! I don't think Ming is fond of me 'topping' and fixing threads right now.

Okay, enough rambling for now. As always, have fun everyone.

I would like to announce my candidacy for reporter. Not against Siro but as another news agent. I will not run if I'm the only one.

To avoid the problem of no reporter on a given turn. I believe that the reporters on staff, should split the days/turns amongst themselves; they can of course report on the same turn.

I don't have any prior reporting experience, but I consider myself a rapid high quality spammer when the occasion calls for it. I will also report accurately.

Unless we have a massive flood of Reporters (over 4), which I don't see happening, then all those interested in the Reporter position may be placed on a staff, and work out the details themselves. I feel that would be more fair, and allow the distribution of work later on the game, when things get really messy.
