Looks like i have the lowest rank here, but i'll toss in my 2 cents anyway... As one can tell by my name here, India would be my top pick due to the cheap temples (culture rush), quick revolutions, a flexible unique unit, and the head start on the ever-valuable great library. If we survive long enough, we even get more money later in the game (in theory). After India, anything industrious (egypt or france specifically)."Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -- Theodore Roosevelt

I personally voted Egypt, since they're my favourites, even if their UU is somewhat useless if the game begins with a heap of jungle separating us from our enemies.
Barring them, I'd say China, Japan, or Germany (in order of preference), since I also like their trait combos, UUs, etc.
But I wouldn't mind Random. A bit of surprise won't hurt."Corporation, n, An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility." -- Ambrose Bierce
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." -- Benjamin Franklin
"Yes, we did produce a near-perfect republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the path of destruction." -- Thomas Jefferson

and plus, workers that take half the time to do jobs is an all around advantage, the road network is stronger, which means more resources/luxuries.
also, caputred workers still work twice as fast as normal captured ones, makign them a "regular" worker. great for a warmonger like myselfMy Website: www.geocities.com/civcivciv2002/index.html

Egypt all the way :
Industrious means we'll have a very good infrastructure right from the beginning. It means early Iron and early luxuries. Cheap temples will be extremely valuable to keep the territory we'll claim and enhance. We'll have a ultra high population and efficiency very soon !"I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident

France all da way! They are industrious so production and infrastructure is good. They are also commercial so u gets more trade and more trade means more units and better scientific research. You get more trade and more production and less corruption, what more can you ask? Culture crap is overrated, who cares how many temples you got when my tank is next to your cities defended by a few spearmen?Let them hate, so long as they fear.

Of course, it is fun to play random civ, but if we want to be serious I would recommend Russians. Scientific: This will help us to be succesful in the tech-race (the state already noted). Expansionalist: It is very impotant to get access to as large territiory as we can, the larger country - the greater number of strategic resourses an luxeries.
