The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

    • I'm in. Grant me a Citizenship.
Some questions: how often do you press [-END TURN-] for Democracy Game? and Can I have the save file? Or is this a civ3 simulation, not played really on any machine? I hope that is not

      • Howdy!

I'd love to join this growing Democracy.

I don't have the experience to run for office, but I would love to be around to learn.

          • Just a friendly public service announcement from your President, if you're going to sign up please be active. We have 170 members, and yet the most number of votes we've gotten on a poll is about 65 or so. In addition, we've never seen a post beyond their joining post here.

              • Trip,

I think a lot of our members are occassional Polywogs. That's fine too. As some active players drop off due to any number of reasons (like life) there are more available to pick up the torch.

                • Yes, but when you consistantly have 30% of 'members' participating after only ~ 2 weeks, then that's a little... odd.
Like I've said, at least half of our 'members' I haven't even seen post other than in this thread (not criticism, just motivation ).

                  • I think 65 out of 170 isn't too bad. Knock out the people under 18 and I'd bet you have an over 50% voter turnout. That is pretty good for a democracy.

                    • 50% for a democracy is a lousy %age. This may be what you see in many democracies and republics IRL, but it is still a lousy %age, nonetheless. Some countries have mandatory voting.

The only time you see low numbers IRL is when the people don't think their votes counts or they are unaware of when the vote is.

One way to increase the %age would be notify all of us when a new poll comes out, as well as either sticky noting them or having one thread (the very first post in that thread) that has current (and only current) polls sticky noted. Considering the number of new posts daily, it is easy to miss one, or to have it slide onto the 2nd page. I don't even try to glance through all of them anymore. I visit a number of times daily, and do have a life outside of here; let's not forget I also enjoy playing the game.

To participate, it's simple : browse this forum, post your opinion when you feel it right (and even when you feel it's wrong )
To vote in polls, go to a thread where "Poll : " is written in the title, and click one of the suggested options. You may also reply in the thread to tell who you voted for and why.

The current polls which I remember :

                                Election : Vice President
