  • Whats up these days?

    Hey all.

Just going through my control panel and found I was still subscribed to this forum.

So yeah, I doubt if any of you remember me from back when this forum was first started. God, long time ago.

Anyway, whats happening these days in this democracy game? What game are we up to by now? How'd the first one finish up to?

Just link me to any threads if you can at all be stuffed doing it, otherwise tell me to stop being lazy and have a look around.

Anyway nice to see you people are still going. Catch me up some, please.

Hiya Flip - I don't really remember you much, but I have
    seen your nick around places.

I am the current and soon-to-be outgoing President of the game here, as we have nominations for some Government positions and elections will be posted in the next 12 hours. The last two months I have been struggling a little, and essentially trying to run this on my own, as I have little idea where most of the Ministers went, and only a few plans have been posted for quite some time. However, despite this and the difficulty of getting in turnchats, there have been nearly a dozen in chat at times during our gameplay (just realised - ask if you don't know about our whole turnchat method of play, but in a nutshell we play the game in the 'presence' of Ministers and those interested in an IRC chatroom).

Turnchats have covered only a few (3-5) turns each couple of hours of play due to the lack of plans to follow, as we have to discuss everything in chat, and I have always been a President much for following through only where everyone, or at least most people, agree with the action. The latest turnplay is reported on here, and you are welcome to read, download the saved game where we stopped and make whatever comments you like on it. Please do not do anything irreversible in the saved game however, and do not play ahead - half of the fun of the DGs is not knowing what the rest of the map is like, and it would be terrible to spoil that.

The thread for Nominations to the next month's worth of play is here. We still have a few positions without nominees, and having a race between two or more for a position always guarantees some fun, so if you or anyone else is vaguely interested please post there. You've got about 12 hours before polls go up

Anything mroe specific that anyone needs answering, ask away and I will do my best to fill you in.
    Consul.

Yeah I only joined and hung around for a couple of months way way back. Didn't post much, mainly lurked.

I remember when turnchats where introduced. Cheers I'll have a look around.

Umm more specific questions. What game are we up to now? Like I'm assuming that the first original game has finished now and we're onto another or two. So yeah which number.
Speaking of this, how'd the very original one turn out? Did we win?

Thats about it for now thanks.

We won the first one via UN vote, after some clever political machinations and gift-giving. This is the second game, but we were originally playing on a huge map with 24 civs. When this led to extreme slowdowns really early on (maybe early AD), we decided to restart with a smaller map and fewer civs. So in a sense this is the 2.5th game.

I remember when c3dg was bustling with new posts... heh good ol vanilla civ days.

                Okay iirc,

first game was egypt. We kicked butt in that game.
2nd game was vikings. We restarted that one.

And now we're still on viking game? (the new viking game... the "2.5"? )
                :-p

It's a little hard to keep surging forwards without many active Ministers, but we try. We have had progression though - if anyone is interested in seeing a bit faster progression, putting together a plan for a few turns does wonders for the speed of play, as we no longer need to discuss everything in chat, but we can do that on the forum and in chat we just need to carry out things that have already been decided.

You don't even need to be a Minister, so there's no obligation to do it all the time!

I'm trying to keep an eye on this place, but somehow I seem to always miss all the chats.

No, not dying. Evolving. With the advent of multi player abilities, most of the old timers here have gravitated towards those demo games.

A few of us have tried to keep things going. In Demo Game #2 (Very similar to this one, but it was abandoned early due to the huge size of the world and the fact that it took an average computer 15 minutes to do a turn, in the late ancient age....) I was doing quite a bit. Now, in game #3, I have basically given up. MWIA however, has put in extraordinary amounts of time over the past couple of months doing his best to make sure it isn't completely dead.
